macOS 10.15 Catalina

Hi, I have just installed a new office jet pro 8024. Running MacOS Catalina 10.15.4. Connected fine - prints fine. Scans fine using the flatbed scanner.

 

From the HP Smart software I have selected the scan option, and chosen to scan from the document feeder .  

 

When I hit Scan, the scanner scans the flat bed. It does not seem to recognise the document feeder is there.
 
Any ideas for getting the software to recognise and use the document feeder please?

Uninstall the HP Printer Software completely from the computer and try installing it again. Refer to the document HP Printers - Uninstalling HP Printer Software (Mac)

To be able to assist you better, I would like to know the following:

 

Are you able to make photocopies using the ADF?

Have you tried using the Apple Image Capture to scan?

 

Meanwhile, try the steps below-

 

Update the printer firmware

Download available firmware updates from the HP website

With the printer on and connected to the computer, go to HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads, and then identify your printer. Look for and install any available firmware updates. Refer to the document HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware

 

Update HP Easy Scan

 

Open HP Easy Scan. On the upper bar, click HP Easy Scan, click Check for Updates, and then install any available updates.

Try scanning.

Hello, Thanks for your help.  I don't get the option to check for updates in HP Easy scan, I have attached a screenshot.Image 11-04-2020 at 21.13.jpeg

 

HP Easy Scan doesn't give the option use the document feeder.  For single sheets using the flatbed, it works fine though.

 

Apple image capture works fine too, both for the flatbed and the doc feeder.

 

The copying function works fine but I can only operate that from the printer's control panel.  It works fine for both the doc feeder and the flatbed.

 

After doing these, the doc feeder started working from the HP Smart software so the problem is solved, thanks.

 

If you could help with scanning double-sided documents too that would be good.  Do you know of any software for scanning in double sided documents?  Should be easy, scan the first sides, turn them over, scan the second sides, then the software puts all of the pages in the right order and you're done.   Cant find this option in any of the software though.  Any ideas?

What I find particularly interesting is the feeder works just fine for printing and copying. Only when attempting to scan multiple pages and use the feeder does the sheet feeder not function.  (Officejet Pro 6978)
