Hi I'm trying to help an elder parent to scan from her new HP Deskjet 2820e and share to contacts in her outlook address book. At the moment it won't find any addresses?

Welcome to the HP English Community --

So far, I have not found the magic to get HP Smart (Windows) to "Share" with New Outlook.

I think I must be missing something -- I've pounded on this thing several times.

I believe HP Smart is not ready to deal with Microsoft's decision to dump Windows Mail in favor of "New Outlook" --

"New Outlook" Sort of works but it's definitely not "there".

If all else fails,

Ask "Mom" Share the email to herself

When the mail arrives in her email Inbox,

Open the email using whatever mailer / mail app she likes

Forward the email to whomever she wants to have a copy.

What else?

IF you have migrated Windows Mail to "New Outlook", undo that change.

What?  Go back to regular Windows Mail.

That works - Share works with regular Windows Mail.

Yeah, but...

The problem with the "fall back to Windows Mail" approach is the the "fall back" part does not seem to stick.

In other words, "Share" to email works until Microsoft sneaks in and (again) updates Windows Mail to "New Outlook".

I've been back and forth and back again several times -- I know what to look for, so that helps.

if "Mom" doesn't understand what is going on (lots of people do not), then when Share breaks, it's upsetting all over again.

In case I'm right and HP Smart > Share combined with "New Outlook" is actually as broken as I believe, and the user wants to stay in HP Smart to send / share, then a method is needed to bypass the need for using Outlook.

What else?

This is a "workaround" -- it is not pretty and it is severely limited --

The workaround does allow the user to Scan and then "Shortcut" to the finish line, that is, scan the content and then send that content to one or more email recipients.

Take a look - if you are interested, try it - Create an HP Smart Shortcut to email / save / print data created (or Imported) in HP Smart.

Show "Mom" how to scan the content and optionally edit it > and Done.

Next, instead of selecting "Share", select "Shortcuts" and then the name of the Shortcut to run.

Reminder

Shortcuts can do more than one thing, even more than one thing at a time --

Something to know:  The "Save" feature can only save to one or another "Cloud" storage destinations.  That means the device where you are using the Shortcut must be access to the Cloud account on that device.

Example - HP Smart - Shortcuts - Edit / Create Shortcut > type Email > create recipients > Save Shortcut > Use Shortcut

After Shortcut is ready, it can be used with a task in HP Smart

HP_Smart_Shortcuts_Create-Edit-Execute_2HP_Smart_Shortcuts_Create-Edit-Execute_2
