Does the HP 8710 need to be connected to a phone line to send a fax?

I am trying to send a fax for the first time from my 8710.  It has a WiFi connection (so I guess that's wireless. )  I can push the send fax button and I can hear the "fax ring" and after 8-10 rings, the printer prints a fax report saying "No Answer".  I don't have my landline connected to the printer via a cable.  Do I need to have them connected in order for a fax to actually be sent?

If you are sending a fax from a printer the telephone landline connection is a must.

Ok.  I do not have the phone/fax cable that came with my printer.  Where can I purchase one?  Does HP have these in stock?
