Hi @BreG1,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

To scan double-sided documents using your HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 from your MacBook running macOS Sonoma, you can follow these steps. It seems like the option may not be immediately visible due to software updates or settings changes. Here's how to proceed:

Check HP Smart Software Updates:

  • First, ensure your HP Smart software is up to date. HP occasionally updates its software to fix bugs or improve functionality. You can check for updates within the HP Smart app or download the latest version directly from the HP website.

Enable Duplex Scanning:

  • Open HP Smart on your MacBook.
  • Select your printer (HP OfficeJet Pro 8710) if it's not already selected.
  • Navigate to the scanning section. There should be an option to manage scan settings or similar.
  • Look for an option that says “2-sided”, “Duplex”, or “Double-sided” scanning. It might be under an advanced settings menu.
  • Enable this option if it's not already enabled.

Use macOS Preview:

  • If you’re unable to find the setting in HP Smart or if it's not working correctly, you can use the Preview app on macOS, which often supports features that third-party software might obscure.
  • Open the Preview app.
  • From the "File" menu, choose “Import from Scanner” or “Import from [your scanner’s name]”.
  • Select your HP OfficeJet Pro 8710.
  • Check the “Combine into single document” box if you want all pages in one file.
  • Look for an option to scan both sides of the paper. This may appear as “Duplex” or similarly worded option.

Check Printer Settings Directly:

  • Sometimes settings need to be adjusted directly on the printer. Navigate through the printer’s onboard menu to check if there's an option that might be disabling duplex scanning when used with a computer.

Reinstall HP Smart Software:

  • If updates and settings adjustments do not restore the duplex scanning functionality, consider uninstalling and then reinstalling the HP Smart software. This can resolve issues caused by corrupted files or improper configurations.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
