Unfortunately, I do not see ANY options to change the settings to the duplex feature for scanning on the printer itself. I have set up this device on the computer and when going through the scan settings on the computer as you instructed, there is no option for changing the scan to duplex either.
Thank you for your help. Is there a phone number I can call and speak with anyone about this?

Please try this scan solution:
HP Scan Extended
For Windows: ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/scanners/HPScanExt/HPScanExt.msi
Once it's downloaded and installed, go to Start > All Programs > HP > HP Scan Extended > Run "HP Scan Extended"

After spent a lot of time trying to work my new 6968 duplex I found the problem. HP dropped the 6968 from $89 to $69 and the same duplex system is called the 6970 and now costs $115. Same exactly original duplex printer but now cost more. Same exactly printer when it was the original 6968. Same cartridge, etc. Bad, very bad for HP. Now I have to take Amazon back and replace the duplex version to a new 6970. What a mess. It took a week to sort it out. That has to cost $$ to Amazon not mention my time.

I went through 3 machines (6968 faulty printing-> 6978 couldn't retract paper for duplex copy-> another 6968 by OfcMax goofup-> fourth is current 6978. All are rattly, rather flimsy, intemperate inkoholics. Getting used to it, but I too demand the advertised duplex scanning: one of main reasons I bought it. Am ready to destroy it, return the pieces to OfcMax, cut my losses and buy a different brand.
