HP OfficeJet Pro 9015 aio printer
macOS 10.15 Catalina

I recently purchased a new HP OfficeJet Pro model #9015 aio printer.   The duplex scanning capability works only occasionally, but the flatbed scanning is fine.  The printer reads in the first page from the document feeder, outputs it, reads it back in again to flip, but then hangs up.  The message that I get is to turn the printer off and try again or, if that is not successful, to contact HP Support.

Since this is a brand new printer, do I return it for another, or is HP having problems with duplex scanning?  I think that I have read that the 9025 model (?) makes the duplex scan in one pass.  Then again, duplex scanning isn't totally new.

Thanks for any thoughts or suggestions.

@Colonel_Biggs, Welcome to HP Support Community!

I understand you have issues with duplex scanning on the printer. Let us try to resolve the issue by following the steps below-

There might be a hardware related issue such as a scanner mechanism jam or calibration issue, low scanner bulb temperature, or an internal or external electrical problem.

  1. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the printer, disconnect the power cord from the power source, and then wait 30 seconds.

  2. If you are using a power strip or multi-plug adapter, connect the cord directly to a wall outlet to make sure the printer is getting enough power.

  3. Reconnect the power cord to the printer, and then try making a copy.

Update the printer firmware

Download available firmware updates from the HP website. With the printer on and connected to the computer, go to HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads, and then identify your printer. Look for and install any available firmware updates. Refer to the document HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware.

Also, refer to the document  Product Specifications for the HP OfficeJet Pro 9025 All-in-One Printer (1MR66A) for details on the printer.

If the issue persists, please reach out to the HP Support in your region regarding the service options for your printer.

Hope this helps!
