Hi,

I have been using EasyScan on macOS with my LaserJet Pro MFPfor a long time, including double-sided document scanning.

Since recently, maybe since I upgraded to macOS Sequoia (I'm now on version 15.2), EasyScan is always hanging / freezing after scanning the first half of pages in a double-sided scan, after processing all the front pages and just before it would previously tell me to turn around the pages and put them back into the document feeder for scanning the back pages.

I've already tried upgrading the printer firmware and installing the latest version (2.0.0 (220518)) of EasyScan (and the printer drivers) from the website download (with "EasyStart"). I've also tried removing the EasyScan preferences from `~/Library/Preferences`. None of this has made a difference.

How can I prevent EasyScan from freezing in the middle of double-sided scanning?

Best,
Nikolaus

Hi @NikoDe,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to assist you.

I understand you're experiencing an issue with scanning from your printer using the HP easy scan app.

I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused, I'm here to help you today.

Please follow the steps below to fix the issue.

A) Perform a power drain.

 1) Unplug the power cord from the printer & wall.

2) Press and hold the power button down for 15 seconds and release the power button, wait for about 30 seconds.

3) Plug the power cord back into the printer and wall, ensure the printer is plugged into the wall & not into a surge protector.

4) Unplug the power cord > Wait for 30 seconds > Plug the power cord back in > Power on the printer

B) Kindly refer to the steps on this link to update the printer firmware and let me know if that resolves the issue.

C) Uninstall and reinstall the HP easy scan application and let me know if that resolves the issue.

D) If the issue still persists, Install the HP smart app for your printer by clicking on the link to print and scan from your printer.

Note: Enable Bluetooth for an HP Smart app setup: Enable Bluetooth on your computer or mobile device so that HP Smart can detect the printer during the setup.

Refer to this link on how to scan using the HP smart app.

Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day

Hi @Irwin6,

Thank you for your reply and the suggestions. I followed the steps.

A) Power drain -> no difference

B) Firmware -> it tried updating via the Control Panel and it said there is no update (I updated recently while trying to resolve the issue myself)

C) I deleted the application and installed it again from the App Store -> no difference

D) The HP Smart app is not a solution, since it seems that it lacks the exact feature that I want to use and that is not working in Easy Scan. Namely "Fake Duplex" / "Double sided scanning". The documentation for the HP Smart app suggests to scan both sides and manually re-arrange the order. That's cumbersome (and I could do the same in Easy Scan).

Since other users have reported this issue with the Easy Scan software and newer macOS versions online, I suspect it's an issue with Easy Scan.

I have a Laserjet CM1415fnw. I was able to scan doulble sided just fine until I upgraded my Mac to Sequoia. I am able to scan single sided. When I try to scan double sided, the scanner scans the first page, never displays a thumbnail, and hangs with the staus bar saying "Processing"

I uninstalled everything, including deleting /Users/username/Library/Preferences which start with com.hp, and deleting /Library/Image Capture/Devices/HP Scanner 3.app. I then reinstalled the drivers, created the printer device, and installed HP Easy Scan using the HP Easy Start app. At this point HP Easy Scan was unable to find the scanner when browsing for a scanner. I checked with a Bonjour browser and found the printer/scanner is broadcasting. At this point, I was unable to scan at all. I added back /Library/Image Capture/Devices/HP Scanner 3.app from a backup. I was once again able to scan, but Easy Scan would still hang when trying to scan double sided.

I still have a mac running MacOS Sonoma and I am able to scan double sided. This is an issue specific to MacOS Sequoia.

@HP Support: Please give us a fix for this! Thanks!

I have the identical experience - things worked great until I updated my OSX version. I have a fully up to date printer, reinstalled the app, power cycled, etc.

HP please test your HP Easy Scan app on the latest version of OSX, this is a 100% reproducible bug.

Having exact same issue on MacOS Sequoia 15.2 and up-to-date printer firmware (had no issues before upgrade to Sequoia)

Is there an ETA from HP for a fix via update to the EasyScan software?

@ron31482, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your EasyScan!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand that HP EasyScan is freezing during double-sided scanning on your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M277dw after upgrading to macOS Sequoia 15.2. I appreciate the troubleshooting steps you have already taken, including updating the firmware, reinstalling EasyScan, and resetting preferences.

This issue may be related to compatibility changes introduced in macOS Sequoia. To resolve this, please try the following steps:

1. Reset the Printing System on macOS

  1. Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners (or Print & Scan on older macOS versions).
  2. Right-click or Ctrl + Click on the printer list and select Reset Printing System.
  3. Restart your Mac and re-add the printer.

2. Check for macOS Scanner Driver Updates

  1. Open System Settings > Software Update and install any available updates.
  2. Reinstall the HP Smart app from the Mac App Store and check if scanning works through HP Smart.

ETA for Fix from HP

While we do not have a confirmed ETA for a fix, we recommend checking for updates in HP Easy Scan, HP Smart, and macOS regularly.

If the issue persists, please let us know, and we’ll be happy to assist further.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
