The printer works fine except when copying. It has worked fine until this week. Now, it prints a solid page of solid ink

Welcome to HP Support Forums. A really great platform for posting all your questions and finding solutions.

I have gone through your Post and I would like to help

Does the problem occur only when making Photocopies or when printing as well? Are you able to Scan?

Let's start with a Printer Reset

(1) Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.
(2) Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
(3) With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
(4) Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
(5) Wait at least 60 seconds.
(6) Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
NOTE: HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.
(7) Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
(8) Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move.
Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed

Thank you KrazyT, but this didn’t work. Had already tried unplugging, but did it again for over a minute.

Answer to your Question.. same result when scanning! Just tried it, comes out solid black and gray.

When using copy, the paper is wet with ink, sme veritical stripes

Thanks for the reply.

I appreciate your time and efforts,

  • Open the scanner lid, initiate scanning and check if the scanner light is lit up and moving across the scanner glass?

Reply with the above-mentioned steps to fix this issue.

Cheers.

Thank You SandyT, I actually did this yesterday on advice from KrazyT. The light does come on, but it seems dim, not bright like it used to be.

i just bought new ink, so may buy another 4520 they’re cheaper to buy than new ink. Lol

On sale at Best Buy!

Thanks for writing back to us.

I understand the issue better now.

This seems to be a hardware issue.
