Since upgrading my Mac to OS Sierra 10.12, i cannot scan to computer or initiate a scan from my computer. I get an error message "Scanner Reported an Error" saying my all-in-one is unavailable. I have tried reinstalling the driver, which is not very recent (what up HP?) and no help. I've tried everything I can think of on my end.

Hi,
The HP Scan application is incompatible with Sierra, therefore you may experience issues.
Delete HP Scan by moving it to trash, then empty the trash.
Instead install HP Easy Scan below, it will be installed within the Applications folder:
http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/HP_Quick_Start/osx/Installations/Essentials/hp-easy-scan-1_...
If you experience any further issues, ensure the latest software is installed by following HP Easy Start below:
http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/HP_Quick_Start/osx/Applications/HP_Easy_Start.app.zip
Finally, ensure your drivers are up to date by clicking the Apple icon, select About this Mac and then press Software Update.
Click Store on the top menu bar, click Reload Page, click Update All if any updated are available.

Shlomi

I have just purchased Envy 4520 and have put in HP Easy Start, but it keeps saying "scan to computer cannot be enabled" from the HP Utility. I have the latest updated Sierra. HELP, should I return the printer?

Tried the suggested, "easy scan" got this message again.....
HP ENVY 5530 series is currently unavailable. Please check if it is turned on and connected, or try again later.
There seems to be no current fix for this scanning problem, other than use an old Mac that hasn't been updated to Sierra.

I actually found a link for Easy Scan but through Apple. And that worked!
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/hp-easy-scan/id967004861
BUT I really have a HP Envy 4530, don't know if that matters,

THANK YOU! After installing macOS Sierra 10.12.1 a few weeks ago, my printer worked but not the scanner. I got the "! Printer not recognized" notice, but my MacBook said otherwise, ...I want to be able to upgrade, but constantly have to hunt for an upgrade for my Envy... After I bought it, HP told me not to upgrade to El Capitan, as it would not be recognised, which was frustrating, as I was forced to upgrade finally, and it had taken up to six months until I was able to find what I needed from HP to download...That was in July, then I upgraded again to Sierra and the same issue.
This was the first site I came to, followed the easy directions, and within a few minutes I was back to scanning! Thank you for an easy fix and in a timely fashion!
