LaserJet Pro MFP M477fmw
macOS 10.12 Sierra

I've had an HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M477fnw for about 6 months now. It's worked well without any serious errors until now. I'm an attorney and it is essential that the automatic document feeder for the scanner works well. Lately, though, after more than one page has been scanned, I get an error message saying that there was an error communicating with the scanner. The process stops and I have to cancel the scan and the scanner will keep pulling several more pages through after that.

I have cleaned the wheels of the feeder with bottled water and a lint-free cloth as recommended. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers and software, I have reset the printer and restored the factory settings, I have checked the WiFi signal strength, and all appear to be working. The only thing else that seems wrong is that I think it might be trying to pull multiple sheets into the scanner at once, but I am not sure. I believe my computer may have updated the operating system to MacOS Sierra 10.12.6 recently, but I couldn't say when. I am at my wits end and I really need to get this resolved because I absolutely MUST have the document feeder for the large documents I need to scan on a daily basis.

I would appreciate any help you could offer.

Thanks.

HI there,

the "Error communicating with Scanner" simply indicating tunnel between your PC to the printer has been break( or at least temporily blocked") .

there might be various reasons causing the communicaiton failure, your Mac OS update might contribute to some extent; I would suggest you rebuild the communicaiton tunnel by re-configure the printer,  that mean using the HP installer to re-install the printer and rebulid the scanner communicaiton. choose to open HP software installer for adding another device or completed doing a uninstall and reinstall.

hope it would help.

Hello,

Thank you for using HP Forum,

We see that you have tried to uninstall and reinstall the printer driver software and cleaned the rollers and the issue still persists.

Then please click on the Apple Icon and click on System Preferences. In the System Preferences, please click on Printers and Scanners.

In the Printers and Scanners window, please select the HP Color Laserjet pro MFP M477 and click on the - sign and delete the printer from the queue. If you have only one printer, then right click in the Left hand side window of the Printers and Scanners, where you have the printers listed and click on "Reset printing system" and if you get any prompt, please click on OK.

Please make sure the firmware of the printer is updated and then please visit the link given below and download and install the latest version of the driver package and HP Easy Scan.

Once the above packages are installed, please click on the Apple Icon and click on System Preferences. In the System Preferences window, please click on Printers and scanners and click on the + Sign and select the HP Color Laserjet MFP477 and next to using make sure the HP Color Laserjet MFP 477 driver is selected and click on Add and once the printer is added to the Queue, please try to Scan and check.

Hope this helps,

Thank you.
