Hi @Hicksts

Welcome to the HP support community.

I understand you're experiencing an issue with your HP device, and I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. I'm here to help you today.

If your HP OfficeJet 8720 is showing a "scanner is busy" message, here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:

1. Check for Pending Print Jobs

  • On your computer, go to Devices and Printers.
  • Right-click on your OfficeJet 8720 and select See what's printing.
  • Cancel any stuck print jobs, as they can interfere with scanning.

2. Use HP Print and Scan Doctor

  • Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool. This can help identify and fix issues with printing and scanning.

3. Restart the Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) Service

  1. Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
  2. Find Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) in the list.
  3. Right-click and select Restart.

4. Power Cycle the Printer

  • Turn off the printer, unplug it for about a minute, then plug it back in and turn it on.

5. Check USB and Network Connections

  • Ensure that the USB cable is securely connected if using a wired connection. For wireless, confirm that the printer is connected to the same network as your computer.

6. Update Printer Drivers

  • Make sure your printer drivers are up to date. You can download the latest drivers from the HP support website.

7. Try Scanning from Another Application

  • Open a different application like Windows Fax and Scan to see if you can scan from there.

8. Reset the Printer

  • Perform a factory reset. Check your user manual or the HP website for instructions on how to do this.

9. Check for Firmware Updates

  • Visit the HP support website to see if there are any firmware updates for your model. Installing these can resolve various issues.

I hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Please click “Accepted Solution” if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others find the solution.
