HP OfficeJet Pro 6960
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I just installed brandnew HP OfficeJet Pro 6960 to replace a defect Lexmark Allinone (printhead damaged), which always sent and received faxes successfully.

I connected the new fax with the additional HP telephone cable, which I plugged in Phone2 of Experia Box V9. (also successfully used for previous Lexmark fax).

When I run Fax Setup Wizard, all tests passed, except Fax Line Noise Test.

I could listen to the beeps and sounds. I heard the tone "Line is Unavailable" and a woman's voice saying that the number is not in use.

To test further, I called the faxnumber with telephone, and I heard the normal fax beeps. (no other sounds).

Next, I sent a fax to another faxnumber, which was well received.

Finally, with the other fax I tried to send a fax to HP OfficeJet Pro 6960., which did not react. On the other fax I got the error message: Line is Occupied.

I have already stand-alone printer, and bought this one mainly in order to receive fax on computer.

Regrettably, I can only send fax, not receive.

Any solution?

Let's try these steps -

Step 1 Turn Auto Answer on -

1. From the printer control panel display, touch Fax.
2. Touch Setup, and then touch Preferences.
3. Touch Auto Answer to turn it on or off.

Step 2 Set the number of rings to answer incoming faxes  -

1. From the printer control panel display, touch Fax.
2. Touch Setup, and then touch Preferences.
3. Touch Rings to Answer.
4. Touch to set the number of rings.
5. Touch Done.

Step 3 Adjust the answering machine message length and clarity -

1. From the printer control panel display, touch Fax.
2. Touch Setup, and then select Preferences.
3. Touch Distinctive Ring.
4. A message appears stating that this setting should not be changed unless you have multiple numbers on the same telephone line. Touch Yes to continue.
5. Do one of the following:
● Touch one ring pattern, touch Fax Wizard, and then follow the wizard.
● Touch Ring Pattern Detection, and then follow the instructions on the printer control panel.
