In trying to use the HP test number and other numbers, my desktop shows that the fax is dialling the number, and I can hear it dialling, a busy signal begins to sound. The call shows on my screen as "Line Busy" and the fax makes two subsequent attempts, each with the same outcomes. Can you help? Thanks in advance!

Thanks for posting. It is a terrific place to find answers and tips!

I understand you are getting line busy error while faxing, I will be delighted to assist you here.

However, I will need a few details to provide an accurate solution,

  • Did you do any changes to the fax settings?

Meanwhile, follow the below steps to fix this issue:

Perform a power reset

  1. Turn on the printer, if it is not already on.
  2. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
  3. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  4. Wait at least 30 seconds.
  5. Plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector and printer.
  6. Turn on the printer.

Change the ECM(error correction mode) setting from the control panel.

1. From the printer control panel display, touch Fax.

 2. Touch Setup.

3. Touch Preferences.

4. Scroll to Error Correction Mode to touch to turn the feature on or off.

If the issue persists, restore the fax settings to factory defaults and setup the fax again:

1. From the printer control panel, touch or swipe down the tab at the top of the screen to open the Dashboard, and then touch Setup.

2. Touch Printer Maintenance.

3. Touch Restore.

4. Touch Restore Settings.

5. Select Fax and touch restore.

6. Touch Yes.

If this helps, please mark my post as an accepted solution so that it benefits several others and please give the same post a Kudos for my efforts to help.
Take care and have a blessed week ahead.

Let me know how it goes.

Cheers.
