Welcome to the HP Community --

I cannot see that you included your printer model.

If you did so, the post failed to include the information.

Based on what we know --

Possible reasons for this behavior might include -- and not be limited to -- one or more of the following:

  • The printer does not include any actual Fax hardware.
  • The landline phone cord is a four-line cord instead of the required two-line phone cable.
  • The cord is plugged into the wrong port on the back of the printer
  • The cord is the right type (2-wire) and the cord is plugged in correctly, but the connection at the wall (where the cord is plugged in) is connecting to a dirty, noisy, squirrel chewed, or otherwise unsuitable connection.  What?  Transfer of data (for example, a Fax) is more demanding than transmitting voice (conversations).  Just because your landline is suitable for one does not mean it will be good enough for the other.  Phone companies typically do not care about this unless you are paying for data line service.
  • The cord is correct, the connection port is connect, the line is sufficiently quiet, and the connection is blocked or incorrectly set up in the Fax configuration side.
  • The fax speed needs to be adjusted.
  • The Fax setup, the basic or advanced configuration, is incorrect, incomplete, or otherwise failing as entered.  In general, printers that include Fax hardware support configuring the Fax setup using the Embedded Web Server (EWS).

Open

 Product Home - Printers

  •  Enter the device type and model name of your HP product
  •  Open Category Setup & User Guides
  •  Find and open the user guide for your printer
  •  Search for "Fax" -- read the chapter and any troubleshooting hints included in the document

NOTES –

  • All Fax Features and Settings are Printer Model Dependent
  • Your printer might -- or might not - include the features and settings shown in the examples.
  • There is no "driver" fix to add features that are not in your printer's fax hardware.

Open your Browser > Type / enter the Printer IP address into URL / Address bar

Section Fax > Fax Archive and Forwarding

NOTE > Includes Email / Network folder as applicable
