HP5610 officejet
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a HP5610 officejet All-in-one thru USB connected to my windows 10 laptop. Printing and scanning works excellent.

I can sent fax manually from the HP 5610 machine, which means that I have to print documents in hardcopy and that put the document in the HP machine to fax.

Is there a utility that I can use to fax documents directly from my PC using the fax modem of the HP 5610 machine?.

I have found a Microsoft utility "Microsoft Windows Fax en Scan". This tool needs a separate fax modem. I cannot find a way to specify this tool to use the fax moden in the HP 5610 device.

Does anyone has a solution for me?

Henk

Hey @HD-Heemskerk,

I see that you are trying to fax from your Windows 10 PC through your Officejet 5610 All-in-One Printer. I can help you with that.

You should be able to fax if you download and install the latest drivers. You can find the drivers by clicking on this link.

When you want to fax you need to start by opening up the print window as if you were going to print. When you do so you should see a printer or print queue with the printer's name and (Fax) at the end. If you select that and try to print you should see your fax options appear.

Please let me know if this allows you to fax. If it does, please click on Accept Solution. If you appreciate my help, please click on the thumbs up icon. Both icons are below this post.

Hey DocCottle,

Thank you very much for your answer.  The fax now works from my PC  with your advice and suggestions.

I can now fax a document from my laptop thru the HP 5600 series fax modem.

However I have one more question:

After you have selected the 5600 series Fax printer a new screen pops up: "HP 5600 series Sent FAX". With this screen you specify the FAX number and fax adressee name. In the lower right corner of this screen you have a choice to add page(s) in device.  I want to include a FAX frontpage with my sent out faxes.

However by clicking this choice and put a fax front page on the glass or in automatic document input of the HP 5600 series machine, than I get an error message: "Can not communicate withe the HP scansoftware. Check if s/w is installed and works correctly".

How can I solve this issue or is there an alternative to include a FAX front page with my laptop document to be sent as fax.

Since the PC is controlling the fax your cover sheet (front page) would have to originate from the PC as well. If there is no option in the fax menu to generate or include a cover sheet, you would need to paste it to the front of a document before you faxed it.

I have done some research and found a way to include a separator page file . Click windows button (most left icon on bottom line of windows screen) - click setup - printers - devices and printers. Than click printer properties  and tab Advanced. There you see a button "Separator page file".

After some attempts I now have the issue that the printer is OFFLINE. I removed all the software and performed the drivers installation once more.  However when I now click on the printer Icon on Printqueue, I see either HP officejet 5600 series -_Offline or HP officejet 5600 series FAX - Offline.   When you click in the printqueue screen on the printer command you see a prompt USE PRINTER OFFLINE. Clicking on this command doesnot change the offline status.

No pages are printed by the printer or faxes sent bij the All-in-one fax. I have restarted the printer and also disconnected the printer from the powersocket.

How can I change this offline status of the printer?

Thanks very much.

If the printer is showing Offline then the next troubleshooting steps are to run the Print and Scan Doctor. You can find the tool by clicking this link. When you run the tool, it will either resolve your printing issue or it will provide you with a list of errors it was not able to resolve. Please let me know which it does. If it provides you with unrepairable errors, please let me know what errors it listed.

Thanks for your answer. The Print and Scan Doctor Tool solved the problem that the printer was offline.

But I am still looking for a way to print a separator page  with the HP printer. In PRINTERS AND DEVICES you can click on the printer ICON and than on PRINTER PROPERTIES. IN the TAB ADVANCED you find a button SEPARATOR PAGE, where you can specify the separator page file. In Windows 10 I found the separator page file PCL.SEP with the following content:

\
\H1B\L%-12345X@PJL ENTER LANGUAGE=PCL
\H1B\L&l1T\0
\U\LUsername: \J\L\\\N
\B\S\J\U
\B\S\N\U
\0
\U\LJob : \I
\U\LDate: \D
\U\LTime: \T
\E

After I have done above mentioned steps for the  HP 5610 officejet printer, I get a message from the printqueue "Printer error" and no page is printed.

Who has help or suggestions for me?

Alright, to clear the print queue error:

  1. If the printer is connected to your PC through a USB cable, remove it.
  2. Close all programs you have open.
  3. In your search bar type in Printers and open Devices and Printers.
  4. Right-click on any icon of your printer listed.
  5. Click on Remove Device.
  6. Repeat for any other icons of your printer listed.
  7. In your search bar type in Services and open Component Services.
  8. Click on Services (Local) on the left.
  9. On the right, right-click on Print Spooler.
  10. Click on Stop.
  11. Open your C:\ drive, then Windows, System 32, Spool, and Printers.
  12. Delete everything in this folder.
  13. Return to the Component Services Window.
  14. Right-click on Print Spooler.
  15. Click on Start.
  16. If you removed the USB cable, connect it. If not, return to Devices and Printers and click on Add Printer to add a new queue for your printer.

Please let me know if this allows you to print.

I did all the actions you mentioned in your mail. In C:\ drive, then Windows, System 32, Spool, and Printers  no files were found. So I could not delete any files. After finishing all you actions, I included the printer separator page file PCL.SEP in the properties of the printer HP officejet 5610 series at the Tab Advanced with button SEPARATOR PAGE.  I tried to print with  this printer but got message "HP officejet 5600 series cannot print document. Printer has error status." In the printqueue  HP officejet 5600 series  there is one printline for the document with status: Error  at printing.

I performed 2 other test:

1: I removed the separator page file from the TAB Advanced from the properties  of the printer ICON. The HP officejet5600 printed  the document as requested.

2: I also have a Lexmark USB connected printer.  I included the file PCL.SEP in the properties of the Lexmark printer in the same way as I did with the HP officejet 5600 series printer.  The Lexmark printer printed the separator page and the document.

I hope I have given you enough information to come up with a solution/suggetsions to print the separator page file also on the HP officejet printer.

Thank you very much for your support.

Henk

There should be an easier way to add cover pages without rewriting files.

To fax from your computer open the print window and select the version of your printer from the list that has "Fax" in the title. When you do so and click on print, Windows should open the HP Software with options to add scans or cover pages.

If you do not see a Fax version for your printer, uninstall the HP Software and download the latest drivers from the HP website.
