After installing my OfficeJet Pro 6978 I can't find any printer listed that shows as Fax printer other than the one that came with the laptop. I have tried this one and it doesn't work. It wants me to choose from a fax modem or a network fax machine. I have had other HP printers in the past and there were always two printers installed, one for printing and one for faxing. What am I missing? Thanks.

Hello, @srobin023 – Hope you are well 🙂
Thanks for your continued participation on the HP Forums! I’d like to help you with the printer issue!
Going through your post, I am not very sure about the issue. Are you referring that you are not getting the printer and the fax entry? If so, check the steps below and check:
- Go to control panel – Devices and printers.
- Right-click on Officejet 6970 and select “Set as default printer”.
- You should get 2 entries under the set as default option. One with a “Fax” prefix, and other with regular “Network” or “USB” depending on your connection type.
- Make sure the printer without the “Fax” tag is the default printer and save the settings.
- While printing also check to select the correct printer name.
If the above steps do not help, then try the steps below to reinstall the drivers:
- Unplug the USB cable from the printer and computer if present.
- Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP Officejet printer entries and uninstall them.
- Restart your computer.
- Now click on http://hp.care/2rnLMvS to download and install the printer drivers.
- Connect the USB cable if prompted and follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation.
Those steps should do the trick, let me know the outcome!
Good luck 🙂

I appreciate your help but after going through all of the steps that you suggested including the complete reinstall I still have the same situation. As you can see in the picture below, there is no option for a Fax-OfficeJet Pro 6978. Any other thoughts?
