Flatbed scans are inverted when placing document on scanner with top to right edge as is normal with most scanners.  Also setting for scanner are locked in HP Smart and I can't locate anywhere to rotate the orientation.

Hi @bill1944,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

This issue with inverted scans on your HP OfficeJet 8015e All-in-One Printer flatbed scanner occurs because the scanner's default orientation expects the document's top edge to align with the top-left corner of the scanner glass. Here's how to resolve or work around this issue.

Verify Document Placement on Scanner Glass

  • Ensure that the document's top edge is aligned with the top-left corner of the scanner glass. This is typically indicated by a small icon or markings on the scanner bed.

Adjust Settings in HP Smart

If the scanner settings in the HP Smart app are locked or the orientation cannot be changed:

  1. Open the HP Smart app.
  2. Select Scan.
  3. After scanning, use the Edit or Crop & Rotate tools within the app to rotate the scanned image to the correct orientation before saving or sharing it.

Use Alternative Scanning Software

If the HP Smart app does not provide the necessary options:

  • Use alternative software like Windows Fax and Scan, HP Scan and Capture, or macOS's built-in Preview tool.
  • These tools often allow you to adjust orientation before or after scanning.

Update Printer Firmware and HP Smart App

  1. Ensure that your printer firmware is up-to-date. You can check for updates via the printer’s control panel or HP’s website.
  2. Update the HP Smart app to its latest version.

Check Printer Default Orientation Settings

You can modify the default scanner orientation settings:

  1. Open the embedded web server (EWS) of your printer by entering the printer's IP address in your web browser.
  2. Navigate to Scan Settings or Advanced Settings (depending on your printer model).
  3. Look for an option to adjust scan orientation. If available, modify it to align with your preference.

Rotate Using Third-Party Tools

If the scanned image is still inverted, use an image viewer or editor like:

  • Microsoft Photos (Windows)
  • Preview (Mac)
  • Adobe Acrobat (for PDFs) These tools allow you to rotate the document to the correct orientation before saving or sharing.

Note:

If these steps don't resolve the issue or the settings remain inaccessible, this may be a limitation of the HP Smart app or the printer firmware.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
