Like an idiot I bought a new printer -Deskjet 2630-because I kept getting the 9923 code when I tried to scan on my old one-a Deskjet 2540.   The new one prints but also wont scan-same error code. I have a MacBook Air and am not impressed by HP printers ! Any help appreciated..

A warm welcome to HP forums! This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips to your technical queries.

Removing the existing Scanner application and then installing HP Easy Scan may resolve the issue. Let's try these steps:

1.) Open Finder, click Applications.

2.) Delete the existing HP scanner applications by moving it to trash.

3.) Download and install HP Easy Scan from here

The video available here has instructions on how to use HP Easy Scan.

If in case HP Easy Scan application fails, try using Image capture to scan.

Here is how to do it:

1.) On your Mac, open Finder

2.) Click Applications and open Image Capture

3.) Select your printer name under Devices.
