Hi @Pammied22,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing a scanner error 13 message on your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw. Scanner errors can occur due to various reasons, such as hardware issues or software conflicts. Here are a few steps you can try to resolve the issue.
- Restart the printer: Turn off the printer, unplug the power cord, wait for about 30 seconds, and then plug it back in. Turn on the printer and check if the error persists.
- Check connections: Ensure that all cables connecting the printer to the computer or network are securely plugged in. Verify that the printer is connected to a stable power source.
- Update firmware: Visit the HP support website and search for the latest firmware update for your printer model. If an update is available, follow the instructions provided to install it. Firmware updates often address known issues and can help resolve errors.
- Reset the printer: Perform a power reset by turning off the printer, disconnecting the power cord, and holding the power button down for about 15 seconds. Reconnect the power cord and turn on the printer.
- Reinstall printer software: Uninstall the printer software from your computer and reinstall it. Visit the HP website to download the latest software drivers and utilities for your printer model. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
- Check for paper jams: Open the scanner lid and check for any paper jams or obstructions. Remove any jammed paper carefully.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Hi this did not work. I cannot update and get the following error message.
“HP Firmware Updater” can’t be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software.
Please advise since I have not been able to use this printer for over 2 months now.
Thanks
