Welcome to HP Forums,
This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips to your technical queries.

I understand that you are getting protocol error.

Please follow the below steps:

  1. Click the network setting on the printer and locate its IP Address.
  2. Type that IP  from the browser on your PC to access its EWS page.
  3. Click the Scan tab.
  4. Under Scan to E-mail click Outgoing Email Profiles.
  5. Click New.
  6. Type your email address and any selected Display name, then click Next.
Note: be sure to take a note of the specific Display Name.
  7. Fill the mail settings as following:
    - smtp.gmail.com
    - 465
    - Check the box next to SSL
    - Check the box next to the SMTP Authentication option
    - Type your full Gmail address as the username and type the Gmail password.
  8. Click Next and continue following the steps till the Summary, then click Save and Test.

If the Test fails for any connectivity issue continue following the steps below:

  1. Click the Network tab.
  2. Under the active connection type section click IPv4 (Wired / Wireless).
  3. Keep the IP Address Configuration as exists, under the DNS Address Configuration check the box next to Manual DNS Server.
  4. Set the Preferred DNS as 8.8.8.8
  5. Set the Alternate DNS as 8.8.4.4
  6. Click the Scan tab and click on Outgoing Email Profiles again.
  7. Click the Test button next to the Display Name configured earlier and check for any difference.

Hello,

By reviewing below article it sees as AT&T are upgrading its security to use OAuth these days, a protocol whihc is not supported by the printer:

https://www.att.com/esupport/article.html#!/email-support/KM1240462

While many other email provideds providing an enhanced security those do allow controlling these settings, such as Gmail or Yahoo which provide Allow Less Secure apps but allow disabling these furtures to allow the printer to connect..

My suggestion would be to use another mail provided such as Gmail or Yahoo by enabling Allow Less Secure apps and disabling 2-step verification.

You may contact AT&T and check if the standard security can be enabled again, hwoever by reviewing the document above it do not seems that way...

@cpravin1234- I would assume you too use an AT&T account? as I don't see any other indication in your post?

Yes, I am using ATT, did you find a fix?

HP Recommended

thanks but this did not help.

We have the same printer, experiencing the same error. Used to work fine. Something changed about 2 weeks ago. We do not use AT&T, we use yahoo, and both macs and pcs. These fixes did not work.

HP better fix this.
