Welcome to HP Forums. This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips.

I understand that you are getting the Protocol error when scanning to email and you have already tried your Gmail Account.

I'll try my best to help you out

I am connected via AT&T wifi.  Everything worked fine and then just the scan to email function stopped.  I have spent countless hours with Apple, AT&T and on-line support with no results.

When attempting to make changes in the HP software, a message appears "this connection is not private"  if you click on visit website it will ask for password and then bring you right back to"this connection is not private", so no changes can be made.

I share your frustration.  I too have spent several hours on the phone with  HP tech support trying to get my AOL scan to email working again.  I fail to see how something works just fine for years and then just stops.  Apparently they've now "escalated" my issue, whatever that means. My guess is there is a patch or update they need to issue.  I hope they get this resolved quickly.  Scan to email was the primary reason I bought this printer in the first place.

The best solution they've been able to come up with so far, is that I now have the "privilege" of buying another HP printer where the scan to email works.

It would have been much cheaper to buy a new printer/scanner, compared to the hours spent trying to figure this out.  I was afraid to go buy a new printer as I wasn't sure 100% sure this is an HP issue and if I would have the same issue with a new printer.  Did you buy the same model printer and has the issue been resolved?

HP Recommended

No I refuse to buy  a new printer when HP should be fixing the problem at hand.   Aside from which if the new one will work, so should the old one, it's a software issue not a hardware issue.

I followed your steps.

However even with my firewalls off my computer stated that the certificates were invald.

I clicked to contiue to the webpage...but the page would not dispaly.

...., so I tried GOggle Chrome.  I still could not get around the UNSAFE warnings.

I'm totally locked out of my own settings..  This never happened before.  I've done this many times

When you typed in the IP address of the printer in the browser did you get a "This site is not secure" message with "Details" at the bottom?  If so, click on "Details" and it should let you see "Go to the webpage" in red.  click on it and it will let you in to the printer web interface admin page.

Like the others on this thread, something changed recently and I am unable to Scan to email from from Officejet 8600.  I am getting an Protocol Error: this Server is not supported message on the printer.  I can access the first screen of the browser tool but when I try to goto any of the subsequent setup screens I get security error.  This happens in both Safari and Chrome despite adding the browser address as "Trusted".

So i am stuck.  Can't scan to email. Can't adjust any of the settings. Can't access any setup pages to try setting up Scan to Computer or other features.

192.168.1.152 normally uses encryption to protect your information. When Google Chrome tried to connect to 192.168.1.152 this time, the website sent back unusual and incorrect credentials. This may happen when an attacker is trying to pretend to be 192.168.1.152, or a Wi-Fi sign-in screen has interrupted the connection. Your information is still secure because Google Chrome stopped the connection before any data was exchanged.

You cannot visit 192.168.1.152 right now because the website sent scrambled credentials that Google Chrome cannot process. Network errors and attacks are usually temporary, so this page will probably work later.

I have two of these printers in my office.  Both connected via Wi-Fi.  Both are behaving the same way.

I managed to get .... continue to this website (not recommended)

And the page it leads to has nothing on it..

So I tried the HP printer and scan doctor.....well that's another problem. That won't even open.

I just don't understand why HP isn't updating it's software.

HP used to be my favorite printers...all in one machines.....it's all I ever bought.

Now I have two that I'm ready to throw out the window.
