I use a Gm@il account for SMTP to send scans to email. Easy enough, once you get the settings figured out. Unfortunately it looks like Google is removing support for SMTP:
So my printer/scanner will no longer be able to email scans out (using the google account). I think I have the answer to my question (set up an account somewhere else that will allow SMTP access), but I wonder how long something like that will be available if Google is shutting it down?
I'm not sure what other protocols we might use (IMAP?), but is there any chance of a firmware update from HP that might include a more contemporary method of sending email from the printer? I expect that wouldn't be the case and we'd be expected to buy a new printer (and we wonder why our landfills are full).
I'm also keen to hear how other people might be set up for scan to email where this will not be an issue.

You do not need to throw out your printer. There is a method for continuing to use scan to email.
