When trying to make a copy using my HP 1250 Fax, what causes  the “Scanner Failure” message and flashing orange attention light next to the On button to appear?

@Rascals2, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

 

This could be an issue with the scanner component in the printer.

 

Reset the printer

  1. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  2. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  3. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
  4. Turn ON the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
  5. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Note: HP recommends connecting the printer directly to a wall outlet rather than a surge protector or a power strip.

 

Clean the scanner glass as shown in this document.

 

Try making a copy and check if that helps.

I have tried these same steps you forwarded with no success however.  I believe this model of scanner/fax/copier is now no longer supported by HP.  I intend to replace it in the near future.  Tks for your return reply though.

Yes, this is a pretty old printer and HP does not manufacture it anymore. If the issue persists, I'm afraid this could be a hardware issue. 

I suggest you upgrade the printer. You may visit Hp Store to check the available printers.
