HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP 4302fdn Printer

I have bought a HP MFP 4302fdn. In the Fax MenuI can set the resolution to Normal, Fine and Superfine. However this is never saved, The next time I send a fax the resolution is back to normal. In the copy menu there appears a save button as described at: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/ish_7344325-7344373-16

However in the fax menu there is no such save button. There is a fax resolution setting in the web menu but whatever I set there has no effect on the UI setting. Setting other settings (for example 2-paged instead of 1-paged sheets) has an effect on the UI.

When will this be fixed or should I send the printer back to Amazon? I have had HP printer/fax devices for 15 years and this is the first device that does not allow me to set a default fax resolution. This is totally unacceptable.

When did you buy this printer from Amazon?

It's about the warranty.

The printer was delivered on Feb 13th and has an invoice date of Feb 12th. I have some doubts if the warranty will help me though if the software is lacking. Is nobody sending Fax anymore these days? 🤕

I am in the process of clarifying this matter.
The changes should already be saved permanently for all outgoing faxes.

Ok, the warranty is valid.

The printer has been removed from its original packaging. Were there no documents included?

Which OS is used?

But there is a new firmware, version 6.17.2.2-202312091658 .

Yes, there were some irrelevant safety documents included, instructing me to not put the printer in the bathtub and not putting it on fire.

Firmware was updated during the initial installation and is exactly the version you mentioned.

  • Firmware Version; 6.17.2.2-202312091658
  • Engine Firmware: 14000
  • SKU Identifier: 4302fdn EMEA

I sent two test faxes yesterday to my fax-2-mail service and the resolution set in the menu is indeed used, the first A4 page at resolution "normal"  was received with a resolution of  8031x3850 and the one sent as "fine" was received at a resolution of 8031x7700 pixels. But the preference continues to not be saved automatically (and with no manual way to save) and has to be set to fine each time I send a fax manually. In the Web interface at Fax => Fax Send Settings I can set a scan resolution but that does not seem to impact the actual Fax resolution.

After some back and forth with Andr-1611 (thank you for your time) I'm now ready to give up. I was asked to print a menu map (which is a feature the HP 4302 does not have), I was asked to check the advanced fax settings (which is a feature the HP 4302 does not have) and answer total stupid questions like whether the server is in a server environment (what does that have to do with setting the fax resolution?) or what date the printer was bought (what does that have to do with setting the fax resolution?).

This whole printer is just a waste of time. I guess HP has fired the developers who were making the software for the old printers (I personally know the HP M425, M426, M475 and M476 and they all allow printing menu maps and changing fax resolution) and outsourced the firmware development to China where the developers either don't know or care.

I might keep the printer even though the fax resolution cannot be changed permanently, maybe possibly this will be fixed in a future release but I'm not helpful since it seems the error is not supposed to be with the software but with the user even though the error is clearly with the software. But this will certainly be my last HP printer. If I'm willing to pay the ridiculous HP toner prices I at least want the **bleep** thing to work as well as every ancient HP MFP in the last 2 decades.

Thank you very much. I'm very relieved to hear this is a bug and not intentional behavior.
