Hello

 

My HP 4630, prints OK but will not scan as it says it does not recognise the laptop. Gone through various recovery processes. Tried, deleting HP software, downloading new; cable plugged directly into wall unit, taken cable out of the back whilst printer on, pressed "on" button for 60 sec, cable put back in again.  Using a HP 4630 with MacBook Pro (macOS Catalina 10.15.2). 

 

When I switch-on printer, it asked to "Pull out paper tray to load paper..", if I do this and press continue it gets stuck on "Now printing alignment page...", I left it overnight and it is still the same. If I ignore this and try printing, it will print successfully.

 

If I press question > home page > scan, it initially says it is connecting to computer and a HP Scan Request Handler message says "preparing to scan" on my laptop. An error message on printer says "computer is not responding". I have used the HP utility tool to ensure "scan to computer" is enabled.

 

Please help. Having a frustrating day!

Hello,

HP Easy Scan is not fully compatible with macOS 10.15. I recommend using Image Capture to scan with your printer.

For more information, please go to HP Printers - HP Easy Scan Is Not Currently Supported in macOS Catalina.

You can also use HP Smart to scan or print with your printer.

The Scan to Computer feature will not work as well now. It is related to the same problem as HP Easy Scan.

MacOS Catalina now not supports 32-bit software, drivers, and applications because some older printers and drivers are not updated to 64-bit (this only applies to HP Easy Scan for HP printers).

So macOS Catalina only supports 64-bit applications, software and drivers.

Don't hesitate to solicit in case of need.

Hi, @Mans and thanks for your response. Another person has pointed out this issue with Catalina. I've tried to use the Apple Image Capture app but it did not work. It says the scanner is busy but its not. Any other ideas would be appreciated.

Please
restart the printer, computer, and router for solve this problem.
  1. Turn the printer off, and then wait 10 seconds.
  2. Disconnect the printer power cord from the printer.
  3. Turn off the computer or the device you are trying to print from.
  4. Connect the printer power cord to the printer, and then turn on the printer.
  5. Disconnect the power cord from your wireless router, and then wait 30 seconds.
  6. Reconnect the power cord to the router.
     NOTE: 
    Wait until internet service is restored. Internet service is interrupted while the router is off.
  7. Wait at least 3 minutes, then turn on the computer.
  8. Try to scan.

Hello, @Mans - thanks for this but it did not work. Appreciate HP are trying to address the Catalina issue, I hope it comes soon. Unless you have another suggestion...

Hello,

macOS 10.15.3 solves the problem encountered with HP Easy Scan at the beginning of macOS 10.15 Catalina. The macOS version 10.15.3 is available since yesterday the January 28, 2020.


Please update the MacOS as follows:

  1. Click the Apple menu, then click System Preferences.
  2. Click on Software Update.
  3. Download and install the latest version of MacOS 10.15 on 10.15.3
  4. Then, try scanning with HP Easy Scan.

Hi, Mans. Thanks again. Tried this but there is no change. Its says the scanner is busy, pull out the tray etc. Thanks anyway unless you can think of anything else.

Resetting the print system deletes all printers in the queue. This includes both HP and non-HP printers.
  1. Click the Apple menu, then System Preferences and then Printers & Scanner.
  2. Right-click the blank space in the Printers list, then click Reset printing system....

  3. Click Reset in the confirmation window.
  4. Enter the Administrator name and password, then click OK.
  5. Wait for the printing system to reset. When complete, no printers should display in the list.
  6. Go to Uninstalling HP Printer Software (Mac).
  7. Restart the Mac.
  8. Use HP Easy Start to install your scanner.
  9. Try to scan.
