I have purchased a HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 Wide Formate All-in-One printer with the expectation that scan to email was an option. I've set the printer up on our network and can print via the network just fine. However, when I log into the web GUI I can not find the scan to email option to setup with our SMTP server. Per documentation I've found, this option should be on the Home screen or under the Scan menu to enable but I can't find it in either location. I've looked under Administrator settings and there's nothing there to enable except web scan which is not what we are looking for.
Things I've already done:
- Rebooted the printer
- Updated to the latest firmware
Anyone have the magic answer for this one or did we just buy a printer that doesn't have the scan to email functionality?

Hi @JamesPope23,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It seems like you're experiencing difficulties setting up the scan to email feature on your HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 printer. This feature allows you to scan documents and send them directly to an email address. Here are some steps you can follow to troubleshoot and set up scan to email on your printer.
Verify Network Connectivity:
- Make sure your printer is properly connected to your network, as scanning to email typically relies on an internet connection. You mentioned that you can print via the network, so network connectivity seems to be fine.
Access the Web GUI:
- Open a web browser and enter the printer's IP address to access the printer's web interface. You can find the IP address of your printer by printing a network configuration page.
Scan to Email Settings:
- Once you are in the web GUI, look for the Scan to Email settings. This option is often found in the "Scan" or "Scan/Email" section. It may also be under "Digital Sending" or similar categories depending on the printer's software.
SMTP Server Configuration:
- In the Scan to Email settings, you should be able to configure your SMTP server settings, including the server address, port, authentication, and security settings. These settings are essential for sending emails.
Test Scan:
- After configuring your SMTP settings, perform a test scan to see if the scan to email feature is working as expected. You should be able to choose an email recipient, subject, and other settings.
Firmware Update:
- You mentioned that you've already updated the firmware, which is a good practice. Make sure you have the latest firmware to ensure compatibility with the scan to email feature.
Manual or Support Resources:
- If you can't find the scan to email settings in the web GUI, consult the printer's user manual or visit the HP support website for specific instructions related to your printer model. There might be an option to enable this feature that isn't immediately obvious.
Remember to input your SMTP server settings accurately to ensure that your scans are successfully sent via email.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
