Microsoft Windows 11

Hi all.

Hope someone can help.

I have a HP8610 which was configured to scan to a network folder on my NAS drive and had been working fine for years.

I changed NAS drives recently and now the Scan to Network>Network Folder Setup keeps failing the Test.

When I add/edit the config for my Shared folder and then click Test or / Save and Test - I just get the following error:

Unable to connect to the printer. Check your configurations and try again.

I don't understand the above - because I can access all the other settings and tools of printer's Web interface from the same browser on my PC - I can access all the various tools etc from the admin page -  including Scan to Computer, Network Summary,  Tools->Product information etc etc..

I have doubled checked the Printer username Network credentials - so there should be no reason it cannot access the network share.

I have also checked that SMB 1.0/CIFS File Sharing Support and all three sub-options are already ticked in Windows features.

Any ideas? thanks

Hi @Echo_Lake

I think I  have figured out the problem.

https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/LaserJet-Printing/OfficeJet-SMBv2-v3-Compatibility-Scan-to-Folder/td-p...

It would seem that the 8610 only supports ancient and unsafe Samba v1

Cannot believe HP has not addressed this - I am being asked to chose between securing my network or being able to scan to a network folder from my HP device - cant have both.

Very Disappointing.

I should add that I tried checking the firmware version from your Download site and also from Smart App->Product Update and it is up to date.

hi,

Thanks for your help.

I installed the Scan Doctor and selected the HP8610 - it ran some tests and then told be to install the latest HP software, which took me to the Microsoft Store.

I installed HP Smart from the MS store, and tried the same steps in HP Smart and I still get the same error when I performed Network Folder Setup and click 'Save and Test':

Unable to connect to the printer. Check your configurations and try again.

I tried several other usernames and password for my NAS accounts and all of them gave the same error as above.

The error does not make sense - since clearly I can connect to the printer - I can Scan to Computer, I can check Network status, check Printer status, I can print etc etc.

Thank you for posting back.

Let's configure the Scan to Network Folder feature

  1. Click the System tab.

  2. On the left navigation pane, click the Administration link.

  3. In the Enabled Features area, set the Scan to Network Folder option to On.

  4. Click the Scan tab.

  5. On the left navigation pane, make sure that the Network Folder Setup link is highlighted. the Scan to Network Folder page should be displayed.

  6. On the Network Folder Configuration page, click the New button.

  7. In the Network Folder Information area, complete the following fields:

    1. In the Display Name field, enter the name to display for the folder.

    2. In the Network Path field, enter the network path to the folder.

    3. In the Username field, enter the user name needed to access the folder on the network.

    4. In the Password field, enter the password needed to access the folder on the network.

  8. To require a PIN to be entered on the printer control panel before the printer can send a file to a network folder, complete the following fields in the Secure the Folder Access with a PIN area:

    1. In the PIN (Optional) field, enter a four digit PIN.

    2. In the Confirm PIN field, re-enter the four digit PIN.

NOTE: HP recommends creating a PIN to secure the destination folder.
NOTE: When a PIN is created, it must be entered on the printer control panel each time a scan is sent to the network folder.
  9. In the Scan Settings area, complete the following fields:

    1. From the Scan File Type drop-down, select the default file format scanned files.

    2. From the Scan Paper Size drop-down, select the default paper size for scanned files.

    3. From the Scan Resolution drop-down, select the default scan resolution for scanned files.

NOTE: Higher resolution images have more dots per inch (dpi), so they show more detail. Lower resolution images have fewer dots per inch and show less detail, but the file size is smaller.
    4. In the Output Color drop-down, select whether scanned files will be in black and white or in colour.

    5. In the File Name Prefix field, enter a file name prefix (e.g., MyScan).

  10. Review all the information, and then click one of the following options:

    • Save and Test: Select this option to save the information and test the connection.

    • Save Only: Select this option to save the information without testing the connection.

    • Cancel: Select this option to quit the configuration without saving.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Hi,

Thanks for getting back - but I don't understand your reply.

You are asking me to repeat exactly  what I have already tried on several occasions?

I do know how to setup Scan to Network Folders - I have done it successfully previously.

The problem is as stated above, the Save+Test / Test function fails with the error mentioned above.

Thanks for the reply.

However, the printer shuts down and restarts every day - so I would assume that Webservices are restarted every day?

I will consider reaching out to your Support team.
