On my HP OfficeJet Pro 8710, when I push the Scan button, then the Computer button, the system doesn't find my computer. I want to scan directly from the 8710 to my computer and not use HP Smart from my computer to initiate the scan (which I can do, it's just not as convenient). How do I get the 8710 to find my computer?

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, I understand that you're unable to use the scan to computer options with the HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 printer.
Firstly, let's update the printer's firmware, refer - HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware
Next, enable scan to computer options:
- Search Windows for your printer model name, and click the printer name in the list of results. HP Printer Assistant opens.
- Click Scanner Actions, and then click Manage Scan to Computer.
- Click Enable to activate the scan to computer option.
