HP 8730 will no longer (since last 10 days) scan from MAC .(tried 3 different machines with the same result) Windows OK, iPhone OK. Message: 'Page not loaded' when I try and scan from tray. Message: 'The scanner failed to complete the overview scan' when I try to scan from flatbed

I have a similar problem, but in reverse.  I can initiate scans from HP Smart, but cannot initiate scans from the HP8730, either from the ADF or flatbed.  When I try, I see the error message in the attached photo. 

 

This change happened sometime between 10/2 and 10/11 when I was away.  It was suggested elsewhere on this site that this is likely due to a firmware update in the printer, but no one seems to be able to tell me how to revert to the prior one. 

 

Why isn't anyone from HP responding to these queries? 

 

I spent a lot of time with the automated bot chat, but it was time wasted, and there was no way, after going through all that, to connect with an actual human.

 

Manually scanning from HP Smart is not an workable option.  Can anyone help?  Is there a way to revert the printer to the prior firmware version?  Are we waiting for the next update to fix this?  Do we have to trash our all-in-ones?  If the latter, I won't be replacing it with an HP.

I have the same issues as the OP with a similar time frame for problem with scanning beginning. Get same error window.  I have re-installed printer, updated all software, firmware, etc.

 

 I can scan from HP Smart but what a PIA to have to log in to scan. Would prefer to scan directly from HP 8730 as before. Printing works per usual. HP Utility is unable to communicate with printer.

 

HP: It's time offer a solution to this problem!! Re-enable Scan To Computer.
