HP App won't load for Mac Catalina OS 10.15.7

I have a HP LasertJet Pro MFP M283fdw and Mac OS Big Sur 11.5.1. The printer stopped working one day and HP Smart crashes on start. Even connecting the printer over USB doesn't work. It isn't possible to add the printer manually anymore (bad file descriptor error). When starting the HP Smart application from the terminal it becomes evident that there is a bug in the application:

Had this issue for months. Same symptoms, was working fine now wont open. On latest OS and version of HP Smart.

This after I was using HP Easy Scan which also stopped working.

We have been having exactly the same problem with two of the three laptops in our household. I'm now unable to properly use HP Smart on the last of the laptops on which it did work partially. We can use Airprint fine, but this has effectively bricked our HP 9015 for use a scanner.

I bought our printer on the recommendation of the NYTimes Wirecutter blog. I am going to contact them and ask them to seriously reconsider their recommendation based on this abysmal software.

Without going through all the same stuff others have done, I found that creating a Guest User account allowed me to open the HP Smart App on Mac Big Sur 11.6. However, after I log out and re log into my account the HP Smart App still crashes. 

It must be some kind of permissions issue.

Were all the way in October and I'm still having the same issue. It's frustrating because I can only print with Wi-Fi direct, and my printer isn't hooked up to my personal wifi network instead. That is ALL I want to change but I cant open the HP Smart app on my up-to-date MacBook Pro. This is so frustrating.

Just got a new update - Version 13.2.0.  It still doesn't work.  It partially opens (blank box), spins and closes.

Still trying to keep my fingers crossed that it will work eventually.

I know, this is insane. I can’t be productive as far as printing because of this. Very frustrating. Ready to call corporate hahaha.

Same issue and tried same work arounds as others. Guest Account works, my account doesn't. I'm printing using the System Preferences app, Printers & Scanners, and I can print and scan but app won't load on Mac. Only iOS and iPad OS.

Just got a new update - Version 13.2.1.  Still doesn't work but it does seem to spin longer before closing.
