Hello, I just bought the printer I mentioned. My old one was beyond repair.
I've been trying for a long time to set up the printer's scanning function to my shared folder on my iMac. It just doesn't work. I've set everything up on the website (quick setup) and I can select Scan-Share to the folder on the printer. It scans, but nothing arrives in the folder. I've tried it with Wi-Fi and also with a wired connection. It makes no difference. Does anyone have a solution?
Regards

Hi @ImTobi
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.
It looks like you are trying to set up your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP 3302fdwg to scan to a shared folder on your iMac running Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard. Here are some steps you can follow to troubleshoot and set up the scanning function:
Setting up Scan to a Shared Folder on Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard
Step 1: Check the Network Connection
- Ensure your printer and iMac are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
- Try rebooting both devices to re-establish the connection.
Step 2: Create a Shared Folder
- On your iMac, create a new folder that you want to share.
- Right-click (or Ctrl-click) the folder and select "Get Info."
- In the Info window, ensure the folder permissions are set to allow access by the user account you are using on the printer.
Step 3: Enable File Sharing
- Open “System Preferences” on your iMac.
- Go to “Sharing.”
- Check the box for “File Sharing.”
- Add the folder you created to the Shared Folders list.
- Ensure the user account has the “Read & Write” permission.
Step 4: Configure the Printer Settings
- Access the printer’s Embedded Web Server (EWS) through your web browser.
- Go to the “Scan” or “Setup” section.
- Enter the path to your shared folder. It should be in the format: smb://<iMac IP address>/<shared folder name>.
- Provide the login credentials for the user account on your iMac that has permission to access the shared folder.
Step 5: Testing the Scan Function
- On the printer, select the option to scan to the shared folder.
- Perform a test scan and check if the file appears in the shared folder.
If my response helped, please mark it as an Accepted Solution! ✅ It helps others and spreads support. 💙 Also, tapping "Yes" on "Was this reply helpful?" makes a big difference! Thanks! 😊
Take care, and have an amazing day!

It dos not work.
The website only offers Scan/Scan to Network Folder. There are no settings for the path to the shared folder. There's only Quick Settings, and I've entered all the necessary information there. But still nothing is arriving in the shared folder. There's no error message, either.

Thanks for getting back to us—and I hear your frustration. When the Quick Setup on the HP Color LaserJet Pro 3302fdwg doesn’t expose the full path configuration or return any error, it usually means the printer is silently failing to authenticate or resolve the network path.
Here’s a refined approach that has worked for other Mac users in your situation:
Advanced Fix: Scan to Shared Folder from HP 3302fdwg on macOS
1. Use the Embedded Web Server (EWS) – Not Just Quick Setup
Even if Quick Setup doesn’t show the full path field, the EWS (printer’s web interface) does. To access it:
- Find your printer’s IP address (from the control panel or HP Smart app).
- Enter it in your browser (e.g., http://192.168.1.100).
- Go to Scan > Scan to Network Folder > Job Settings or Quick Sets.
- Look for a field to enter the folder path in this format:smb://<iMac IP address>/<SharedFolderName> Example: smb://192.168.1.25/Scans
2. Use IP Address Instead of Hostname
macOS sometimes blocks hostname resolution from SMB clients. Always use the iMac’s IP address, not its computer name.
3. Double-Check macOS Sharing Permissions
- Go to System Preferences > Sharing > File Sharing.
- Add the folder and ensure your user account has Read & Write access.
- In Options, make sure SMB sharing is enabled and your user account is selected.
4. Use Correct Credentials
- Username: your macOS login name (case-sensitive).
- Password: your macOS login password.
- Avoid special characters in the password if possible.
5. Test the Connection
In the EWS, there’s often a “Test” button when setting up the folder. Use it to verify the connection. If it fails silently, try:
- Temporarily disabling your Mac’s firewall.
- Ensuring both devices are on the same subnet (e.g., 192.168.1.x).
