HP DeskJet 2130
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

My dad recently bought a HP DeskJet 2130. We tried it and the print and copy functions well but when we tried to scan something, something popped out with "An error occured while scanning". I 've followed the steps on how to scan but still it didn't work. Help please.

Hello, @driedleif – Hope you are well 🙂

Allow me to welcome to HP Support Forums! It is a great platform to get help from the community, get suggestions and find what has worked for others!

I see that you are having issues while scanning using your Deskjet printer. Going through your post, it looks like an issue with the printer drivers.

Let’s first try to fix this issue using HP Print and Scan Doctor (PSDR). PSDR is an automated tool which can diagnose and resolve printing and scanning problems. Please go to http://hp.care/2bZ9w2q to download and run HP PSDR. Once you open the program, select your printer and click on “Fix Printing” to automatically diagnose and fix the issue.

If the issue persists, try the steps below to reinstall the drivers:

  • Unplug the USB cable from the printer and computer if present.
  • Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP Deskjet printer entries and uninstall them.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Now click on HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads to download and install the printer drivers.
  • Connect the USB cable if prompted and follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation.

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!

Good luck 🙂

FIX PRINTING IS WORKING FINE, WHEN I START OVER AND CLICK ON FIX SCANNING, I GET SCANNING ISSUES SAYING PRINTER WAS NOT FOUND

Hi @SEALERS,

Thanks for stopping by the HP community. A very good day to you. 🙂 I reviewed the post regarding assistance with scanning errors. I will be delighted to assist you here. 🙂 Superb description and stupendous diagnosis of the issue before posting. Kudos to you for that. 🙂

For better clarity and to assist you better I would require information regarding this:

  • Did you try a root level uninstall and reinstall the printer software?
  • Did you try a hard reset on the printer?
  • Did you try making copies directly from the printer to check if it works correctly?

For now please try these steps:

Please make 2 copies directly from the printer without any communication from the computer.

If it copies fine then uninstall and reinstall the printer drivers by following these steps:

  • Uninstall the printer from "programs and features" which can be accessed by doing a right-click on the Windows button (Please have the printer Off and disconnected during uninstallation.)
  • Check in device manager, if the printer is listed there, please delete it. (Right click on the Windows button to access device manager)
  • Go to devices and printers, select any printer listed there and you will get some options on the top.
  • Click on print server properties.
  • You will get a popup, click on the drivers tab and delete all the HP printer drivers listed there if any.
  • Delete all the instances of your printer listed in devices and printers.
  • Restart the PC.
  • Once the PC is on the desktop, press Win + R, it would bring a Run dialog box,
  • Type %temp% in the run box and click Ok or hit the Enter button.
  • It would bring up the temporary files folder. Delete the files in the folder (You might not be able to delete all the files).
  • If possible, delete the printer from the registries using Regedit or using any other 3rd party application.
  • Ignore the Regedit option if it cannot be done.
  • Restart the PC again.

Then download the latest full feature driver and install it on the computer after selecting the correct operating system.

Connect the printer to your computer only when the setup prompts for the printer.

This should do the trick for you.

  • If it does not work, then please install the Windows built-in drivers by following the instructions from this link: http://hp.care/2o3acvH and this should do the trick for you.

For scanning issues please try these links

If the scanning issue continues, then please follow the all the prescribed steps from this link: http://hp.care/2gKTFL1 to fix scan related errors.

Please perform all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue. The trick is to remain patient, Going by your technical expertise and competence I am sure you will be able to perform these steps without breaking a sweat. 🙂

Hope this helps. Let me know how this goes. I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great.

To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles.

Take care now and have a terrific week ahead. 🙂

Hello, I have the same problem. I have a DeskJet 2130 on Windows 8.1 x64 and printing works fine.

Making copies also works fine (both color and black/white).

But no matter how hard and how many times I try, I can't scan anything. I tried to use "HP Print and Scan Doctor" and also I tried everything mentioned in the posts above with no result: Uninstalling the printer and installing the printer again, regedit, deleting the drivers etc.

How can I just make the scanner work because it should actually work like a breeze, just like the printer works.

Thanks
