I understand you are facing an issue with your HP DeskJet 2621 scanner has suddenly stopped working and is displaying an error message, here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the issue:

 

1. Restart the Printer and Computer

  • Turn off your printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Plug in and turn on your printer after a few minutes.

2. Check Connections

  • Ensure the printer is properly connected to your computer via USB or network connection (Wi-Fi).
  • If using a USB cable, try a different USB port on your computer and a different USB cable if available.
  • If using Wi-Fi, ensure the printer and computer are on the same network.

3. Update Printer Drivers  Software and Drivers for HP DeskJet 2621 All-in-One Printer

  • Visit the HP Support website to download and install the latest drivers for the HP DeskJet 2621.
  • Make sure to download the drivers specific to your operating system (Windows, macOS, etc.).

4. Run HP Print and Scan Doctor HP Print and Scan Doctor

  • HP offers a diagnostic tool called HP Print and Scan Doctor that can help identify and fix issues.
  • Download and run the tool from the HP Print and Scan Doctor page.

5. Check Scanner Software

  • Ensure that the scanner software is installed correctly.
  • Reinstall the scanner software from the HP website if necessary.

6. Check for Updates

  • Make sure your operating system is up to date.
  • Check for any pending updates for your scanner software or drivers.

7. Reset the Printer

  • Perform a hard reset on the printer by unplugging it from the power source while it's on. Wait for about 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.

8. Firewall/Security Software

  • Temporarily disable your firewall or any security software to see if it is blocking the scanner from connecting.

9. Check Error Messages

  • Take note of the specific error message displayed and search for it on the HP support site or forums for more tailored troubleshooting steps.

Hello Gaya,

Thanks for your reply and help.
I ran through your proposed solutions, and finally, after I reinstalled the HP Smart App, the scanner function started to work again.
It was interesting that while I was running through all the drivers and programmes from HP,  I found the HP Scan App worked perfectly despite my struggles with the HP Smart scanning function.
