Hi,
I just got this today. Prints fine, but it won't scan. I already tried Print & Scan Doctor several times, but it won't fix the problem.
How do I get this to scan?
Thanks

Hello AsusMan,
Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand you're unable to scan a document using the Deskjet 2540. I will do my best to assist you! What is your operating system on your computer? Windows or Mac?
I would recommend following this entire HP document on https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/ish_2281796-2060609-16
I realize you're able to scan a document using a wireless connection, but you want to make sure the software is correct when a USB cord is connected. At the very end of this document, it does state to uninstall/reinstall the software. (Only if you reach the end of this document.)
Please post your results, as I will be looking forward to hearing from you.

I got it to scan fine when I used wireless setup. But using USB cables, it can't seem to find the Scan Driver, which is what Print & Scan Doctor is telling me. Even when using Windows Fax and Scan, it can't find it.
Any advice?

Cheetah,
Thank you very much. I did all the solutions before except solution 5. That did the trick. I can now scan with my USB. Awesome 🙂 I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit, on an Asus gaming laptop.
Thanks again. Solved and very happy!

Hi Cheetah12,
I am using a Mac Yosemite 10.10 and all of my printer scanners for some reason have been deactivated. I'm using several HP and other brand printers, but the main one is HP 2540 that I need to fix asap. I have already deinstalled, reinstalled and re-reinstalled the drivers/software/HP utility/HP scan, but nothing seems to work. Here is the error that comes out when HP Scan tries to scan: "HP Deskjet 2540 series-AirPrint is currently unavailable. Please check if it is turned on and connected, or try again later." My printer prints, so all connections are good. The only thing it stopped doing is scanning. However, I also have another HP Officejet 8600 that has the same problem after I updated my MacOs to 10.10. Could it be a systemic problem that has to be solved in all your printer drivers to be updated for this new MacOs release or is there something else I have not tried to fix this?
Thanks!

I'm having the same problem as chphr, as my scanner worked before upgrading to Yosemite, but it has not since--and I have tried updating the drivers and reinstalling the device. The printer still works, however. Any advice?

Same problem, using HP Scan application on Mac 10.10.1, error message is that the device is unavailable. I can however scan in from the webserver which is frustrating. I assume I have the driver if I have the HP Scan application? What am I missing?

Same problem here, Mac OSX 10.10.2, full connectivity for test print and setup, shows me all the supplies, etc. BUT NO SCANNING!!!!
I get the message "HP Deskjet 2540 series-AirPrint is currently unavailable. Please check if it is turned on and connected, or try again later."
I wasted over an hour of tyring every suggestion, including uninstalling and reinstalling. I am pissed off.
