And It'll be an honour to help you out,
Sometimes, it's better to start with the simple things before moving ahead into the depths of an issue,
That said, I was curious to know if the copier works as a standalone? without the computer or smartphone, etc...? if it doesn't, that would confirm a hardware failure.
And If it does, you could attempt using the drivers available using the Apple software as that should resolve your concern: Click here for the details.

None of the solutions listed here - none of them - work.
Curiously, I recently added my HP Printer (M477fnw) to my MacBook Pro, which is also operating Mac OS Sierra 10.12.4. Much to my surprise, Easy Scan worked flawlessly!
I think the problem may be some software glitch from the earlier versions of HP Essentials Software, which never fully uninstalls. HP Support (my printer is still under warranty) has yet to offer any solution for my MacMini.
