Is there any way possible to use the old HP Easy Scan, where I load my document, then use the computer screen icon to scan and work with my scan in terms of what configuration I want and where I want to save it? I don't want to have to do the scan at the printer itself. I want to initiate the start of the scanning process from my computer like I used to.

Hi @twcpa,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
Yes, you can still scan from your computer using your HP printer without needing to press buttons on the printer itself, just like you used to with HP Easy Scan. While HP Easy Scan is no longer actively updated, there are still ways to achieve the same functionality using HP’s current tools or legacy options, depending on your macOS version.
Option 1: Use HP Easy Scan (Legacy App for macOS)
If you're using macOS 10.11 to macOS 12, you can still use HP Easy Scan:
🔗 HP LaserJet Pro MFP - Scan by using the HP Easy Scan software (macOS) | HP® Support
- Download and install HP Easy Scan.
- Open the app, select your printer.
- Load your document and click the computer screen icon to scan.
- You can choose scan type, resolution, and where to save the file just like before.
Option 2: Use HP App (Modern Alternative)
If you're on macOS 13 or newer, HP recommends using the HP app:
🔗 HP: Print and Support on the Mac App Store
- Open HP App.
- Click the Scan tile.
- Choose Scanner Glass or Document Feeder.
- Adjust settings like file type, resolution, and save location.
- Click Scan to start from your computer.
Option 3: Use Apple Image Capture or Preview (macOS Built-in Tools)
These tools work with most HP printers that support AirPrint or eSCL:
- Open Image Capture or Preview.
- Select your printer from the device list.
- Choose scan settings and destination folder.
- Click Scan, no need to touch the printer.

I hope this helps.
Take care and have an amazing day!
