HP ENVY 5530 e-All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

After Windows update to 11, my HP Envy 5530 printer will copy and print but not scan.  Tried to do it the way it was on Windows 10, get message saying "not connected".  I tried to get this information once before but the answer involved both a download from Playstore and then something to do with an HP download, couldn't figure it out. Can someone tell me how to do this, remembering that I am not a techie and need very simple instructions.  Thanks.

Hi @Diane175,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like the issue you're facing with the HP Envy 5530 printer after updating to Windows 11 is related to the scanning software and drivers. Here are some simple steps to get your scanner working again.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Uninstall Old HP Software and Drivers

  • Press the Windows key on your keyboard and type "Control Panel."
  • Open Control Panel and go to Programs > Uninstall a Program.
  • Look for any HP printer software (like HP Scan, HP Print, etc.) and uninstall them by right-clicking and selecting "Uninstall."

Download and Install the Latest HP Drivers for Windows 11

  • Open your web browser and go to HP Support Website.
  • Type HP Envy 5530 in the search box and press Enter.
  • Select Windows 11 as your operating system.
  • Download the Full Feature Software and Drivers package.

Install HP Software

  • Once the download is complete, open the file and follow the on-screen instructions to install the latest HP software and drivers.
  • This software will install the HP Scan and other tools needed for your printer to work fully.

Restart Your Computer

  • After the installation is complete, restart your computer.

Try Scanning Again

  • Open the HP Smart app or HP Scan app on your computer.
  • Ensure your printer is turned on and connected via USB or Wi-Fi.
  • Try scanning a document to check if it now works.

Optional: HP Print and Scan Doctor

If scanning still doesn't work, use HP's troubleshooting tool:

  • Download HP Print and Scan Doctor from HP’s website.
  • Run the tool, and it will automatically detect and fix any issues with your printer or scanner.

Following these steps should help you get your HP Envy 5530 scanning again on Windows 11.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

I received a reply from Alden4 and was about to make the attempt to follow his instructions.  However when I went to control panel, as instructed, and pressed uninstall a program, there was no program listed with an HP designation.  Windows 11 is truly making life hell.  Did I miss something in the instructions?  Or is the HP stuff somewhere else?

Hi @Diane175,

Thank you for your response,

It seems like you're trying to uninstall HP software for your HP Envy 5530 printer, but you're not seeing it listed under "Uninstall a Program" in the Control Panel on Windows 11. This can happen for a few reasons, and I'll guide you through the steps to ensure you follow the right process.

Here’s what you can do:

Check for HP Software in the Apps Settings (Windows 11):

  • Press Windows Key + I to open Settings.
  • Navigate to Apps > Installed apps (in older versions, it might say "Apps & Features").
  • Scroll through the list to find anything labeled "HP", "HP Smart", or "HP Envy 5530".
  • If found, click on it and choose Uninstall.

Use the HP Print and Scan Doctor:

If you can’t find the HP software in Control Panel or Settings, it’s worth using HP Print and Scan Doctor, a diagnostic tool provided by HP. It can automatically identify and fix common issues with printing and scanning.

  • Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor from the HP Support Website.
  • Follow the prompts to troubleshoot your scanning issue.

Reinstall the HP Printer Drivers:

If the printer software seems missing, you can reinstall the drivers for your HP Envy 5530:

  • Go to the HP Envy 5530 driver download page and download the latest drivers compatible with Windows 11.
  • Install the drivers and check if the scanner works after that.

Check Windows Built-in Scanner Tool:

Since Windows 11 has its own built-in scanning feature, you can try using it directly:

  • Search for "Scan" in the Windows search bar.
  • Open the Windows Scan app and see if it detects your HP Envy 5530 and allows you to scan.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

I got the second email with more instructions - unfortunately I do have a problem - I tried to print out the instructions on the first email so I could try to follow them, the printer would not print the whole page, only half so had to do the second half of the page as another page, the print is minuscule.  Then I ran into the problem I described.  Now I have this detailed message which I appreciate but I can't memorize the instructions and don't even know if it's possible to split the screen so I can still see them.  Windows 11 is a true nightmare - it's caused me no end of trouble already, Geek Squad had to wipe it and re-do it and there are things missing or malfunctioning, as with the printer.  I will try to print out the latest set of instructions when I have a little more time.  Thanks for trying.
