Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

 

Check Your Connection Type

Are you using:

Wi-Fi connection? (most common)

USB cable?

If you're on Wi-Fi, ensure

The printer and PC are connected to the same Wi-Fi network

The printer shows a solid blue wireless light

 

Reinstall the HP Smart App (Recommended for Scanning)

The HP Smart app is required for full scan functionality, especially for models like the 6020e.

Uninstall any old versions of HP Smart

Download the latest from:
HP Smart

Re-add your printer inside the app

Click “Scan” in the app to test

 

Run HP Print and Scan Doctor (Windows only):

Update Printer Firmware (Update the firmware on an HP printer | HP® Support)

  • Go to the HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads page. Enter your printer model number and search for the latest firmware update. Follow the instructions to download and install the firmware update.

 

Restart Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) Service

This Windows service powers scanning.

Press Win + R, type services.msc, hit Enter

Scroll down to Windows Image Acquisition (WIA)

Right-click >Restart

 

Reinstall Printer Drivers

  • Go to Control PanelProgramsPrograms and Features. Find and uninstall any HP printer software.
  • Go to the HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads page. Enter your printer model number and download the latest drivers. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the drivers.
  • Download and install the full driver/software package, not just the basic driver

Try Scanning from HP Smart Mobile App (optional test)

If you have a phone or tablet:

Install the HP Smart app on it

See if it can scan

If it works there, the issue is with the PC connection, not the printer
