My Envy won't scan a document. I had started to scan a 6-page doc a few days ago, and it stopped about halfway through the scan for reasons unknown. Now when I try to start the job again, I'm told that the Scanner is in use. How can I cancel a Scanner job in order to start over?
I downloaded and ran the HP Print & Scan Doctor and the results came back stating it couldn't discover a problem, so I had to "skip" the diagnostic step of the process.

Hi @bcsob,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
To cancel a scanning job on your HP Envy printer, you can follow these steps.
Cancel from Printer Control Panel:
- On the control panel of your HP Envy printer, locate the "Cancel" or "Stop" button. Press this button to cancel the ongoing scanning job.
Cancel from Computer:
- Open the Print Queue on your computer. This is usually accessible through the system tray or taskbar on Windows or the menu bar on macOS.
- Locate the scanning job in the print queue associated with your HP Envy printer.
- Right-click on the scanning job and select "Cancel" or "Cancel Printing."
Restart Printer:
- If the above steps don't work, try restarting your HP Envy printer. After restarting, check if the scanning job is still listed in the print queue.
Check for Background Processes:
- Ensure that no other scanning or printing processes are running in the background. Sometimes, a previous scanning job might not release the scanner, causing the "Scanner in use" message.
If you've tried these steps and still encounter issues, you may need to restart your computer as well.
If the problem persists, there might be a deeper issue with the printer or its software.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Hello Alden. Many thanks for your reply to my Envy 7645 issue. The problem was solved with your help. But a couple of points regarding your solutions:
1. On the Envy Control Panel window, I could not find a Cancel or Stop command. Should the Envy have that on the Menu somewhere?
2. I accessed both the HP Smart app and the Windows Settings, and both indicated that the printer was "busy", but the Print Queue listed no jobs waiting for either Scan or Print.
3. I ended up using your 3rd suggestion of rebooting both the Envy and my PC, and that seems to have cleared the "mystery job" and I was able to scan my full doc without further problems. When it came back online, the Envy spitted out a Printer Test Page that I had not requested, which was odd. And I am ashamed that I didn't think to reboot both devices myself!
In any case, I'm clear and working again, so I thank you very much for your assistance!
