macOS 12.0 Monterey

My HP Envy has scanned photos easily for many years but with the new update it says that my pro tee doesn’t have that function! Why take that function away from a printer that was capable of it before? How do I get it to scan again?

Hi @Cam118 ,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand that you're facing issues with scanning on your HP Envy 7858 printer after updating to macOS 12.0 Monterey. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the problem:

Check HP Software: Make sure that you have the latest HP printer software installed on your Mac. Visit the official HP website, search for your printer model, and download the latest software and drivers compatible with macOS 12.0 Monterey.

Restart the Printer and Computer: Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve connectivity issues. Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for about 30 seconds, and then plug it back in. Additionally, restart your Mac.

Check Printer Connection: Ensure that your printer is connected to your Mac either through a USB cable or over the network. If using a wireless connection, make sure that both the printer and the Mac are on the same network.

Reset Printing System: Resetting the printing system can sometimes resolve scanning issues. To do this:

  • Open "System Preferences" on your Mac.
  • Select "Printers & Scanners."
  • Right-click on the printer and choose "Reset printing system."
  • Re-add your printer and check if scanning functionality is restored.

Verify Scanner Driver: Ensure that the scanner driver is installed correctly. Sometimes, updating or reinstalling the driver can resolve compatibility issues.

Check for macOS Updates: Make sure that your macOS is up to date. Apple releases updates to address compatibility issues and improve overall system stability.

Use HP Smart App: Consider using the HP Smart app, which is designed to provide a unified solution for managing your HP printer. It might offer additional scanning features and compatibility with the latest macOS versions.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

I've got the exact same problem, and it started at almost the same time that yours did - i.e. sometime in the last month it seems like scanning was disabled on my 7858.  It won't scan to either SD or via e-mail anymore, the error message seems to imply it has been disabled.

It seems like HP released a software update that broke scanning?
