Hi all, Please help me here. I have HP LaserJet Pro MFP m225dw Printer and lately, it's having issues connecting to the scanner.  I tried downloading new drivers and software but no help. I did some troubleshoot after browsing a few youtube videos but all gone in vain. My printer cartridge is showing very low, would that affect my scanner connectivity?

Please help me as I need to submit some assignments and need this printer working asap. HP customer service never responds out of warranty products. I have used it prudently and it's my first tonner only.

I would really appreciate it if anyone can please help me out here.

Thanks

Hello,

This is unfortunately a very common problem lately, it's clearly an issue with the HP app itself.

Please check that your printer is not in the list linked here below

HP Printers - Web Services Stop Working | HP® Customer Support

I suspect the HP app is somehow using web services to communicate with the scanner that now aren't supported anymore, you will in fact notice that if you try to scan from the HP app, while you are getting the "cannot communicate with the scanner" error, the scanner is actually working.

For the moment I suggest you to use third party software (e.g. Scanner app by Microsoft from Microsoft store if you have Win 10, with that the scanner is working flawlessly) until HP doesn't fix the problem.

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Are you able to copy?

Are you using the HP Smart App on your PC? If not, you may try and install to see if that works: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c04675142. If yes, uninstall and reinstall it.

If the issue persists, try these steps:

Let's run the HP Print and Scan Doctor:

Hey thank you very much for your kind reply and for trying to help me.  Yes, I have HP Smart APP and I did uninstall & reinstalled it but still, it's not helping. HP scanner shows a busy error or not able to connect. I can print the documents through the app and I can even scan using a USB drive but I can't use the scanner using my computer. It's a brand new printer, hardly used and I find it difficult to throw it away.

I have used the HP Print and scan doctor but, that also not able to find any error and redirects me to seek HP community support.  I reinstalled the firmware and software from the HP website but it's not helping either.  I don't know what's wrong with the scanner that It cant be connected to the computer but works with the USB flash drive. I tried using the cable connection but, again the scanner doesn't work. So I know there is no problem with my wifi router as I got it replaced 2 days back. Please help me if you can.

Thank you.

Regards,

Narendra

Hi Betty,

Thank you for the time you are taking to help me. Yes, I can copy and print remotely from my computer, I can even scan it on a USB drive,  and it works fine there. HP app connects to my printer and lets me print as well, but when I try to scan the documents, it shows this error:

1. Scanner Not Found

The device could not be reached. Check your printer to make sure the device is online, and then try again. If the problem persists, visit the HP Support website.

2. Scanner In Use

Please try again when available.

However, though it says the device could not be reached, when I give scanning command my printer screen shows "Scanning to computer" display but scans nothing.

I tried it with my friend's laptop and mobile as well, but the problem still persists. If you need more info please let me know.

Thank you.

And are you able to scan from the Printer's control panel?

Please try and update the firmware: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/ish_1776648-1643972-16

Let's try to do a root uninstall and reinstall of the software:

Unplug any USB cable, if any, before doing this.

1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features

2.) Select your HP Printer

3.) Select Uninstall

4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers

5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose 'Delete' or 'Remove Device'

6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)

8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab

9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom

10.) Select Ok

11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows

12.) Close Devices and Printers

13.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo

14.) Type c:/programdata and click Ok. Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.

15.) Restart the computer.

Once done, please download and install the software from here:

https://support.hp.com/in-en/drivers

Let me know if this helps.

Hi Eirinn,

Thank you very much for your reply, Yes it's HP App that is creating all the troubles. I concluded the same as when I installed "Paperscan TWAIN" app it works fine but on HP App itself, it doesn't work. I think it's high time to part ways with HP Products in my household and would suggest the same to my friends and family members.  I liked the HP App though, It's sad how HP has taken old customers for granted. Anyways thank you once again for taking the time to write to me, I appreciate that.

Thank you and Regards,

Naren
