Hello, I have an HP LaserJet M227FDN connected via USB. Suddenly, a couple of months ago HP Smart astarted reporting that scanning was currently unavailable. I also use NAPS2 and it too said that the selected scanner was offline. I've used HP Print and Scan doctor and it said that the scan driver was missing and it installed it, and I continued to scan normally. A couple of days later same problem - scanner missing/offline - HP P&S Dr. says driver missing, it reinstalls it and I can normally scan. This started happening every few days (I don't use the scanner that often) so i uninstalled and reinstalled the complete driver suite. It didn't help (right after the reinstallation the scanner worked and a couple of days later back to square one). I've upgraded Win10 to 11 but the problem persists. I've downloaded the latest full driver and did the uninstall-install procedure but the problem remains. In device manager i have the scan driver (44.1.2413.1752) but still nothing. Has anybody solved a similar problem?

Hi,
From the search bar type CMD, right-click on Command-Line and select Run as Administrator, be sure to confirm any prompt by pressing Yes.

Past the following command and press enter:

Sc config stisvc depend= rpcss/ShellHWDetection

Now restart your computer and try scanning, may you see any difference?

Hello,

 

In short it worked immediately but stopped working 2 days later.

Sorry for waiting so long with the response but i had to be sure: after running the SC command and restarting my PC the scanner started working again. I havent used the scanner until tonight, 2 days later. Now it again says that the scanner is offline. Just to make it clear: I shutdown my PC daily and I don't turn on the printer if I don't use it. In this specific case the PC was turned off and on at least 3 time since i ran the SC command and the printer was off for two days.

 

Now what can be tried next?

Is there anything I can do excep create a startup script with this?

Sc config stisvc depend= rpcss/ShellHWDetection

net stop stisvc

net start stisvc
