Common problems HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to scan
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.

LaserJet Pro MFP M28w
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I just upgraded from the HP PSC 750 to the HP LaserJet Pro MFP M28w. I scan many documents at 200 dpi B&W, and I save to PNG format for losslessness.

When I scanned an entire 8.5x11 inch page using the PSC 750, the file size was in the order of 50KB. When I do the same with the LaserJet, the size varies from 2+ times to 4 times bigger. This builds up over many pages and documents over the years. It can chew up email quota.

There don't seem to be a whole lot of scan parameters that the user can control to ameliorate this problem.

  1. What is behind this many-fold inflation of file size?
  2. What can the user do about it?

Hi,

Thanks for using the HP Support Community.

Can you download and install the FULL featured printer software from HP for your operating system:
https://support.hp.com/sg-en/drivers/selfservice/swdetails/hp-laserjet-pro-mfp-m28-m31-printer-serie...

Once you have downloaded and installed the FULL feature software, you will be able to print and scan.

These resources show you how to download and install as well as to use the HP Scan, which has a feature to scan PDF files with a small filesize:

Hi, Greenturtle,

I downloaded a sizable installation file when I was first setting up the MFP.  Is there a way to determine whether I already made the installation that you pointed out?

Also, you said that I would be able to scan.  However, I'm already able to scan.  The problem is that the file size is many times larger than with my older HP MFP.  In view of this clarification, is your suggestion  still on-the-mark?

Thanks.

Hi @JustAnHPuser

Please check out the resources shared.

Especially this one- where it shows how to scan with a small filesize fo PDF:

Understand that you're scanning PNG, but the FULL software may be able to resolve the issue,  (For PDF documents definitely so)

Hope that helps!
