HP MFP M277dw scanner creates huge pdf file size of simple black and white text documents

This printer has a scanning glitch.  I have tried every setting.  A simple text only document scanned in black and white as a PDF creates a file size of 10x larger than older other model HP scanners.  When scanning several pages, the file size quickly becomes too large to send via email.   A black and white pdf at 75dpi is blurry.  150dpi is readable but 10x larger and 300dpi of course much larger.  A document with some text and images is also much larger.  Scanning a color magazine page is outrageously huge.  HP, please take notice and acknowledge this glitch, test in your own lab with this unit and some older units of a different model and provide a firmware update, especially for simple black and white PDFs used for business correspondence, expense reports, etc.

I downloaded the software and performed a series of scans, using the PDF function, Everday Scan function, as well as Gray, and Black and White, different DPIs and different Quality slidebar (high quality vs smaller sample size).  I will admit there are an infinite number of combinations with all these various functions.  Some scanned examples were too blurry or low quality.  Others were good but again file sizes were much larger than they should be.  The original was a simple black and white text document of a full page invoice.  The file sizes of this test ranged from 300kb to 600+kb.  For comparision, I scanned the same document on an old HP L7680 with the following settings:  PDF-Black, Doc Type: Text (300 dpi by default, not changeable) 75 Darker on slide bar.  And the file was only 87kb.  What do the HP engineers have to say about this?  Is this a known glitch or did they alter the superior scanning function used on older printers?
