Hi @CG901
Welcome to the HP support community.
I understand you're experiencing an issue with your HP device, If your HP OfficeJet J5750 All-in-One Printer is showing a "Scanner Failure" error and is also requesting ink cartridges despite successfully using HP Scan and Capture for years, there are a few potential reasons for this behavior. Let’s go through some troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue.
1. Check Ink Cartridges
Reinstall Ink Cartridges: Remove the cartridges from the printer and reinstall them to ensure they are seated correctly.
2. Perform a Printer Reset
- Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
- Wait for about 60 seconds.
- Plug the printer back in and power it on.
3. Check for Paper Jams
4. Update Printer Drivers and Firmware
- Sometimes, outdated drivers or firmware can cause scanning issues. Updating to the latest version can resolve many problems.
- Go to the HP Support page and search for your printer model to download the latest drivers and firmware updates.
- After downloading, follow the instructions to install the updates.
5. Check Printer Settings
- Ensure the printer is set to allow scanning functionality. Some settings can accidentally disable the scanner if not configured properly.
- Open the HP Scan and Capture software, and make sure your printer is selected as the scanning device.
- You can also try using the Windows Scan app to check if the scanner works through that software.
6. Run HP Print and Scan Doctor
- Download HP Print and Scan Doctor from HP's official site.
- Open the tool, and select Fix Scanning.
- Follow the on-screen prompts to troubleshoot any scanning issues.
7. Reset the Scanner Mechanism
- Turn off the printer and unplug it.
- Open the scanner lid and gently move the scanner assembly (the part that moves during scanning) to ensure it isn’t stuck or blocked.
- Close the lid, plug the printer back in, and turn it on.
8. Check for Errors on the Printer Display
- Look for any additional error messages on the printer’s display panel. Sometimes, specific errors will provide more context about what’s causing the failure.
- If there is a specific error code or message, look it up on the HP website or user manual for more targeted troubleshooting steps.
9. Try Scanning from the Printer's Control Panel
- Use the scan function from the printer’s menu to see if the scanner is working without the software.
I hope this helps! Keep me posted.
