When I go to the HP Smart application and select Scan, the image that is created is blank. I do not hear the scanner make noise like it used to. It seems to go thru the motions of scanning (I've tried both on glass and document feed) with the same result. No image. Of course, my printer is out of warranty so I cannot get HP help to respond. It is very frustrating. cm

Try these steps:

Check for Power and Connection:

  • Ensure the printer is turned on and connected to the computer either via USB or network.
  • Check for any error messages or lights on the printer control panel.

Reboot Devices:

  • Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for a minute, and then plug it back in and turn it on.
  • Restart your computer.

Software and Setting Validation

Update HP Smart App:

  • Make sure you have the latest version of HP Smart installed. You can check for updates via your respective app store or download it from HP's official website.

Software Reinstallation:

  • Uninstall the current HP Smart application or scanning software used.
  • Reinstall it from the official HP website or your app store.

Scanner Hardware Check

Inspect Scanner Glass and Automatic Document Feeder:

  • Ensure there is no obstruction or debris on the scanner glass or ADF.
  • Clean the scanner glass with a lint-free cloth and mild glass cleaner.

Check Scanner Lid Sensor:

  • Ensure the scanner lid sensor is working properly. Ensure the lid closes completely and securely.

Change Scan Settings (if applicable)

  1. Adjust Scan Resolution:
    • In the HP Smart app, try changing the resolution settings to ensure the scanning settings are correctly configured.

Perform a Factory Reset

  1. Factory Reset the Printer:
    • Access the printer menu via the touchscreen control panel, navigate to settings, and choose the option for restoring factory defaults.
    • Be aware that this action will clear custom settings.
