Hi @Ss12890,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
I understand how frustrating it is when your printer works for printing and faxing, but scanning just won’t cooperate, especially when you’re on macOS 15 Sequoia. Let’s get this fixed together.
Your HP OfficeJet Pro 8138e relies on HP Smart and HP drivers to enable scanning. macOS 15 introduced security and driver changes that can cause the scan feature to fail even though print and fax work fine.
Steps to Enable Scanning
1. Update HP App
- Open Mac App Store → Search HP Smart → Install the latest version.
- Restart your Mac.
- Open HP Smart → Select your printer → Click Scan → Choose Document or Photo → Adjust settings → Scan and Save to your folder.
Download HP App – For HP Printers, Laptops, and Tech Accessories | HP® Official Site
2. Install HP Easy Start
- Go to HP Drivers & Downloads HP OfficeJet Pro 8138e All-in-One Printer | HP® Support).
- Download HP Easy Start and run it to install the latest drivers and scanning utilities.
3. Reset Printing System
- Go to System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
- Right-click in the printer list → Select Reset Printing System.
- Re-add your HP printer.
4. Use Image Capture (macOS Built-in)
- Open Image Capture from Applications.
- Select your HP printer from the left panel.
- Click Scan → Save to your desired folder. This works even if HP Smart fails.
5. Check Permissions
- Go to System Settings > Privacy & Security > Full Disk Access.
- Ensure HP Smart and HP Easy Scan have permissions.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have an amazing day!
