HP OfficeJet Pro 8730
macOS 11.0 Big Sur

Hello, I am having problems with the HP Office Jet Pro 8730 printer. Firstly, I am unable to download the latest firmware from HP website. It keeps redirecting to another printer that is in the system, when I go online and try to download the firmware for the appropriate printer without logging in to HP, it tells me that the HP firmware updater does not have a suitable upgrade for me even though it tells me something different when i am logged in.  I have already reset the printer(i throwed it out of Devices manually on the pc and also reseted all Printing settings manually on the display of the Printer), but it still doesn't print. However, it did print the test page. I found the following error code that may be related to the problem: E [10/Jun/2024:17:02:33 +0200] Missing value on line 1331 of /private/var/spool/cups/cache/job.cache.

I really would appreciate the help guys

Hi @Suidualc1,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand your experiencing a few issues with your HP OfficeJet Pro 8730 printer on MacOS 11 Big Sur. Let's address the problems step by step:

1. Firmware Update Issue Update the firmware on an HP printer

If you're having trouble downloading the firmware update from HP's website, there could be a few reasons for this:

Redirecting to Another Printer: This might happen if the website detects a different printer model or configuration. Ensure you are on the correct support page for the HP OfficeJet Pro 8730.

Different Responses Logged In vs. Not Logged In: Sometimes, HP's website might provide different information based on whether you are logged in or not. Try logging in and ensuring you are selecting the correct printer model during the firmware download process.

2. Printing Issue

Since the printer only prints the test page but not documents, and you found an error related to CUPS (Common Unix Printing System), here's what you can do:

Check Printer Connection: Ensure that the printer is properly connected to your MacOS device via Wi-Fi or USB, depending on your setup.

Restart Printer and Mac: Sometimes, a simple restart of both the printer and your Mac can resolve communication issues.

Reinstall Printer Drivers: Sometimes reinstalling the printer drivers can resolve printing issues. You can download the latest drivers from the HP website.

Check Print Queue: Make sure there are no stuck print jobs in the print queue that could be causing issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
