Hi, I got the scanner and on the first day it scanned to pdf just fine.  I went back a couple days later and it would not work.  I used the Scan Dr. 5.2.1 and it gave me a Twain error message.  Now I can have the scanner communicate with Windows to create a .tif file but I need .pdf and I want to use the HP that I got.  What am I supposed to do now?

Welcome to HP support community.

 

Uninstall the printer driver and reinstall printer full feature driver to fix this issue

  • In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
  • Select your HP printer.
  • Select Uninstall.
  • In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
  • In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
  • Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
  • Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
  • Click on Drivers tab.
  • Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click Remove at the bottom.
  • Select OK.
  • Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.
  • Close Devices and Printers.

I did everything you said, and I made sure to uninstall everything, but it still can't scan, but it can print.

Use HP Print and Scan Doctor to fix the issue.

Download HP Print and Scan Doctor.

  1. Run HPPSdr.exe from the download location on your computer.

  2. Once HP Print and Scan Doctor opens, click Start, and then select your printer.

    • If your printer in not in the list, turn it off and on, and then click Retry.

    • If there is a connection problem, follow the instructions in HP Print and Scan Doctor.

  3. If a screen prompts you to turn on printer updates, click Yes.

  4. If a screen prompts you to make your printer the default printer, click Yes.

  5. Try to print.

I do not have a problem with PRINTING.  I can not SCAN when I use the HP Printer Assistant application.  I am able to scan using the smart phone app.  I can scan from the HP to Windows to create a .tif file.
