HP OfficeJet 5255 digital fax setup. Does it exist?

I have an HP OfficeJet 5255. It's been set up for 6 months and works fine. The fax has been working the whole time using paper.  The manual for the HP Office-Jet 5200 All-in-One series (here -http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05648843) gives instructions for setting up"Digital Fax". So yes, it is supposed to work on this model.

The documentation (page 45) says, "Open the HP printer software." and "follow the instructions". 

Fair enough. How to open the Software?  (refer to page 19),

Page 19 - "Windows 10: From the computer desktop, click Start, select HP from the app list, and then select the
icon with the printer name."

Here is the issue. The only software there (at first) was the setup app. For giggles, I went through it a few times. Of course, that didn't fix anything. 

I searched for other info. On the HP site (https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03448663) for Digital Fax, it directs you to "Install HP software and drivers: Go to 123.hp.com (in English) to install the full-feature software and driver package that includes HP Digital Fax."

Well, for my product, the only option is the "Smart" app. And it doesn't have any settings for Digital Fax at all.

So then I make my way to the product page directly and download firmware update (it's already updated) and the "Full Web Pack"...and that is the same install software I already have that doesn't do anything.

So can you use Digital Fax with the HP OfficeJet 5255? The documentation says you can.

If so,  HOW?

Side note - I asked this question to a rep there and after 40 minutes on hold, he let me know that I need to put a phone line in the machine to fax. I reiterated that all that was already set up. Then he said he had to transfer me and two minutes later a robot lady told me there was a problem and hung up on me.  So that was an awesome help.

Short Answer - and my opinion

Based on checking what I can find about this model, I think the Fax Digital Filing described in the User Guide is not available.

For example, I checked the Specifications, the Datasheet, and on internal source to which I have access.

That said,

If the feature is available, then you will be able to find the option and set it up using the Embedded Web Server (EWS).

After the software is installed, Restart the computer and log in

HP Smart for Windows

HP Smart for Windows does not support regular Fax functions but is very nice software for Scan and Printing.

In some cases, a Mobile Fax subscription might be offered in HP Smart - this is NOT the same thing as using your printer fax.

HP Smart is an application available from the Windows Store.
